There’s something important I wanna show you.
Check out these verses:
“The word of the Lord came to Solomon: ‘As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, observe my laws and keep all my commands and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise I gave to David your father. And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon my people Israel.” -1 Kings 6:11-13
Ya see that?
While Solomon was in the midst of his temple-building project, God basically came down to him and said it’s my commands that will bring about blessings, homie, not some grand, beautiful piece of architecture.
Since Solomon was so focused on the construction of the Temple, I have a feeling he missed the lesson,
While there was nothing wrong with building a place of worship, it was secondary to trust and obedience to God.
The Lord didn’t want Solomon to think that the more money he spent on building the temple, the more it would somehow result in blessings or God’s acceptance.
That is Gentile thinking, man.
While the pagan world believes that building all of these magnificent structures pleases their gods, the God of Israel makes it clear it’s not necessary.
You wanna know who actually gets the glory from all of these buildings?
The homies who built them and the folks who donated the money.
Then, after the building project is finished, the pastor stands at the front looking all important and everything.
It’s men honoring egotistic men.
God warns us about that mindset.
Now I ain’t saying building a beautiful house of worship is a sin.
It ain’t.
But it can be a trap.
You look at the impressive piece of architecture you erected and start thinking that what you did impresses the Lord.
It does not.
Honestly, I believe the simpler and more no-frills your meeting spot is, the more it truly reflects God’s character.
Done.
