“…then hear in heaven where you live, and act in accordance with everything about which the foreigner is calling to you; so that all the peoples of the earth will know your name and fear you, as does your people Israel, and so that they will know that this house which I have built bears your name.” – 1 Kings 8:43
There’s an interesting scene from the movie The Matrix.
A guy named Cypher, who took the red pill, is bitter about his situation and is now having a virtual steak with the enemies of the team he swore to protect.
This scene is similar to Judas meeting with the chief priests when he was plotting against Yeshua.
While Cypher is chomping down on the T-bone, he says something interesting:
“I know this steak doesn’t exist.
I know that when I put it in my mouth, the Matrix is telling my brain that it is juicy and delicious.”
He then goes on to say:
“After nine years, you know what I realize?
Ignorance is bliss.”
Now, why in the world do I bring this scene up?
Because I feel it connects to Solomon’s prayer on behalf of the Gentiles that they would come to the knowledge of the God of Israel.
Here’s the thing.
Solomon’s prayer for the goyim is kind of a double-edged sword if you think about it.
Why?
Because, of course, it’s a wonderful thing if the Gentiles come to a knowledge of the Lord and decide to worship Him.
But what happens if they hear of Adonai’s greatness and reject Him?
Then the knowledge of the Lord becomes a curse.
After becoming exposed to the truth…
If they still see the Lord as just one god among many…
Or worship Him but don’t want to be part of His people…
Or have no interest in following His commands (as Christianity does)…
Are putting themselves under God’s judgment.
They can no longer claim innocence when they have chosen to approach God on their own terms while rejecting the way of life He has commanded.
It’s like, darn, I wish I was never exposed to the knowledge of the God of Israel in the first place.
You ain’t necessarily doing someone any favors by sharing the gospel with them.
Because once they know the Lord, they no longer have any excuse.
They have to make a choice to either accept or reject it.
Kind of like Cypher in the Matrix later regretting that he ever took the red pill that led to the truth about the nature of his very existence.
And let’s face it.
The gospel that Yeshua is the Messiah is a red pill of gargantuan proportions.
It forces you to make a difficult decision.
If you accept it, you have to change how you live your life…
If you reject it, you will have to face those consequences at the end of your life.
Ya feel me?
Just a little philosophical food for thought for you.
