“She said to the king, ‘What I heard in my own country about your deeds and your wisdom is true, but I couldn’t believe the report until I came and saw for myself. Actually, they didn’t tell me even the half of it — your wisdom and prosperity surpass the reports I heard..” – 1 Kings 10:6-7
Alrighty, following our deep Hebrew dive yesterday, let’s jump back into our text study.
Verses 6 and 7 really sum up just how blown away the Queen of Saba was.
His wealth and wisdom far exceeded her expectations.
You wanna know what was really awesome about Solomon?
He was highly capable in both the realms of the abstract and the practical.
I know that’s a mouthful
So lemme explain
Most homies who possess philosophical understanding don’t really know how to do anything with their deep thoughts.
They’re like marijuana smokers who sit on their couch all day chomping on Cheetos while priding themselves on contemplating the mysteries of the universe.
They never do anything with their deep thoughts, other than reaching for another bag of Cheetos.
The bottom line is that they are absolutely horrible at operational matters where procedures need to be streamlined to actually get things done.
Ya feel me?
On the other hand, we’ve got pragmatic homies who are the exact opposite.
They are good at dealing with concrete facts and administration.
They don’t have the temperament or patience to deal with high and lofty spiritual matters.
“Stop daydreaming and just get things done!” is their attitude.
The reason why the Queen of Saba was so impressed with Solomon is that he was equally capable of both.
He could wipe the floor with both philosophers and administrators alike.
So lemme ask you this?
In terms of temperament, which category do you feel you fall into?
Are you more of the high and lofty spiritual type?
Or are you the no-nonsense, get-things-done type of person?
As for me, I’m definitely the high and lofty spiritual type.
I could smoke spiritual marijuana all day and night…
And if I didn’t have to work to pay the rent, I probably would.
I love Scripture that much, and could blog through it from sun up to sun down.
But I realize that homie won’t hunt, and a healthy dose of balance is in order.
And that’s your takeaway for today.
Whether your temperament is more philosophical-oriented or pragmatic…
I feel Solomon shows that a healthy balance is what is ideal.
Yes, studying and meditating on Scripture is important…
But just as important is taking care of the physical necessities of our existence.
Ya feel me here?
Done.
