Today I wanna show you a quick trick you can use to determine whether your Bible was translated from the original Hebrew texts (the Tanach) OR the Greek or Latin Bibles (the Septuagint).
So all you gotta do is look at where the Book of Ruth is located in your Bibles.
If Ruth is located right after the Book of Judges, then it was NOT translated from the original Hebrew text.
It was translated from the Greek or Latin (again called the Septuagint).
On the other hand, if you find Ruth sandwiched between The Song of Solomon and Lamentations, then you can be confident it was translated from the earliest Hebrew texts (the Tanach).
Which means we can be confident the Complete Jewish Bible was translated from the earliest Hebrew texts.
However, the so-called Protestant Bibles like the King James Version were translated from the Greek or Latin (meaning the location of Ruth is right after the Book of Judges)…
Now understand I’m not implying that the location of Ruth in your Bibles makes it good or bad Bible translation.
If the Bible you read was based off of the Greek instead of the Hebrew, that doesn’t mean you’re reading a Bible created by the devil or something.
But you are reading a translation of a translation…or a copy of a copy.
And that can explain why the wording can sound different than an English Bible translated from the original Hebrew.
Over and out homies.
