“God came to Balaam and asked, ‘Who are these men with you?’ Balaam said to God, ‘Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent me this message: ‘A people that has come out of Egypt covers the face of the land. Now come and put a curse on them for me. Perhaps then I will be able to fight them and drive them away.’” But God said to Balaam, ‘Do not go with them. You must not put a curse on those people, because they are blessed.'”-Numbers 22:9-12
There are only three times God speaks to gentiles in the Bible.
The first time is when He approaches King Abimelech and warns him not to touch Abraham’s wife Sarah.
The second time is when He approaches Laban.
Recall Laban was Jacob’s uncle on his mother’s side and like Balaam he was also a Mesopotamian.
Laban was heading up a posse in hot pursuit of Jacob when God stopped him in his tracks and told Laban in no uncertain terms that he was not to hurt Jacob.
And the third time God spoke to a gentile is here in Numbers 22 when he spoke to Balaam.
Do you notice a common thread running through all three of these incidents?
In all three cases, the Lord is intervening on behalf of His People to protect them.
Let’s examine the conversation between the Lord and Balaam.
God starts off by asking Balaam the rhetorical question of “Who are these men with you“?
I say rhetorical because it’s not like God didn’t know what was going on.
He knew exactly what Balak and his men were up to when they approached the gentile diviner Balaam.
HASHEM only asked the question to establish a direct dialogue with Balaam.
Balaam hides nothing when he answers.
He flat out tells God that Balak approached him with the request to curse Israel.
God responds by saying “you must not put a curse on these people because they are blessed”.
Now what exactly does God mean when He says Israel can’t be cursed because they’re blessed?
Simple.
God is referring back to the covenant He first made with Abraham that was passed down to Isaac and then finally on to Jacob.
Remember, in Scripture, the covenant is always referred to as “a blessing“.
In saying Balaam “cannot curse Israel“, the Lord is informing Balaam of two things.
First, that it is impossible to curse what He has blessed.
Second, the consequences for attempting to curse what God has blessed can be fatal to the person who tries it.
There will be divine retribution upon the one who attempts to harm God’s Chosen People.
If YOU reading this are against Israel or are thinking of harming Israel, I’ve got five words for you.
DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!
You are putting both your physical and spiritual welfare in serious danger.
Onward.
Now there was a serious problem with Balaam’s way of thinking.
He thought he was just going to go up to some mountain with King Balak and his men, mumble some magical hocus-pocus gibberish and then return home with a pile of cash for his efforts.
As I said earlier, Balaam considered himself to be just a hired gun.
He wasn’t going to stick around to battle against Israel with Balak and his men.
The truth is he could have cared less about both Israel and Balak.
He just wanted to get paid and then wash his hands clean of the whole affair.
He was trying to be morally neutral but with God THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS MORAL NEUTRALITY!
In Balaam’s mind, he didn’t think he was doing anything wrong or evil.
He just doing his job as a professional.
However, God didn’t see it that way.
From God’s perspective, there is no middle ground.
In addition, no matter what role one might play, anything one does that could harm God’s people will always be an offense to God.
The UN should pay attention to this principle.
Balaam assumed he was just going to do his job and then afterwards have no responsibility for what followed.
Big mistake!
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“Whoever is not with me is against me,
and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”
-Matthew 12:30
DA says
Gentile is used in the bible only three times, so that means we must completely count out the new testament. The first time gentile is used in the bible is to describe Japth dependents who are the Euopeans and some Asians for the most parts.GENTILE nations are still mentioned in the old testaments Meds (Russians) for an example.
Paul was the apostle to the gentiles, you have 77 verses in the new testament to back this up.
Who did Paul take the gospel to, Japth decendents, (Greeks, Romans, Asia minor, Macedonia and so on) the Euopeans, follow the geniolgy.
Romans 11:13
I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I take pride in my ministry
Romans 1:14-15
I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise
Romans 15:18-21
For I will not presume to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me, resulting in the obedience of the Gentiles by word and deed
In the old testament YHWH (God) really only dealt with Noah’s sons HAm and shem decendents which He always called by their names, they
were never consider Gentiles. This lie is nothing but confustion and is not supported by the bible. Gentile does not mean nations.
Genisis 10:5 is the first time the word gentile is ever used, and notice in the same sentence Gentile and the word nation is used, this make no sense what so ever. The gentile is used to describe a people, (Japth seed)
Until the time of the gentile is fulfilled is mentioned In the New testament a number of times, what does that means?. Well if you know anything about history Japth Seed the Euopeans was the last one of Noah’s Sons to rulel the earth, 1st it was Ham decendents the Africans then Shem The true Hebrew’s and last Japth, the Euopeans or gentiles. And they will rule up until the time of Yahshura (Jesus) return, their time will be up on ruling the Earth hence the terms time of the Gentiles to be fulfilled
Genius 10:5
5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
God promises to Abraham Isaac and Jacob and their seed being blessed was always conditional to their obedients to YHWH. The book of Deuteronomy, Leviticus, Exodus and numbers speaks of this conditional blessings to obedience to Yahweh.
Deuteronomy 28 speaks of the blessings and the curses that will be brought up on the Hebrews for Disobedience .
If this wasn’t the case why did the Israelites or Judah go in captivity with Assyrians Babylonian Persians and medes Greeks and Romans, because of their Disobedience the Bible is very clear about this topic
It’s impossibe for YHWH to bless these people who don’t even believe in his Son Jesus.Jesus refer to anyone who dosents believe in the Son” Antichrist, And the Father states without the father you cannot have the Son and without the Son you cannot have the father. These verses Are clear as day in the Bible.
Deuteronomy 30 King James Version (KJV)
30 And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath driven thee,
2 And shalt return unto the Lord thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;
3 That then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered the
Deuteronomy 30:1-3 is crystal clear the only way YHWH can turn back to his true Hebrews if they all turn back to him with all their heart and all their soul including the children.
Most people in Israel today are atheist not only do they not believe in the Son but they don’t believe in the father the father of the Bible says I repeat you cannot have the Son without the Father or the Father without the Son.
The Christian church has lied too many people and we must wake up and read the bible ourselves, the people over their today yard from the Seed of Japth, converted Gentiles
Please research the number of Jews who turned back to YHWH with all their Heart and Soul during WW2 while in the concentration camps, the answer is 0, 80% we’re atheist before World War II 80% with atheist after World War II. Then you have the 10% that are Orthodox Jews that owns 90% of wealth of the world. Lets say some of them truly believe in the True God of the bible, Without acknowledging the Son it means nothing! They are considered antiChrist and “God doesn’t blessed Antichrist” well not the God of the Bible!
WAKEUP!!!!!!

I didn’t say the Bible only mentions gentiles three times. What?! I said the Bible only records three incidents where God speaks to gentiles directly in I guess an audible fashion and the story of Balaam is one of those times.

Thank you for all your helpful posts. Learning a lot.
The Hebrew word “with” in Numbers 22:12-14, 21 is IM, meaning full agreement to purpose in going with them.
The Hebrew word “with” in Numbers 22:20 is ETH, accompaniment without convergence of minds.
Interesting!

Of course, Israel, native born snd grafted in, can and do cause YHWH to exercise His Coventant not in blessing form, but in curse form, due to stiff-necked traditions of men.
Why is the modern state of Israel in perpetual strife? I would suggest the answer goes back to His covenant. May all Israel soon cry “Blessed is He who comes in the name of YHWH!”
