We’re in the midst of discussing the story of the 12 scouts who travelled to the Promised Land (at this time known as “Canaan”) and came back to Moses with their report.
Although separated from this incident by thousands of years, there are a couple of key takeaways from this scene which have direct application to our situation today.
In our current study of Numbers, the people of Israel are now standing near the border of the very land God had promised to them.
They are literally only moments away from fulfilling the incredible promise God had first given to Abraham.
Yet what happened?
10 of the 12 scouts decided NOT to trust God.
The truth be told, everything these 10 men had reported was objective and accurate.
However, since they lacked faith and trust, they came to a negative conclusion that would have disastrous consequences for all of Israel.
This is interesting because the other two scouts who trusted God and wanted to boldly go forth and take the land had witnessed the same things the 10 men who brought a negative report were exposed to.
The faithful and the unfaithful had experienced the exact same situation.
The only difference was that some decided to trust and the others (the majority) decided not to trust.
So what’s the modern day parallel I wanted to get at?
Well, here in Numbers we have 10 men in authority who because of their faithlessness came to a conclusion that would result in 3 million Israelites being denied their land inheritance.
Well, I would say along the same lines, there are many in the so-called Church today who are doing the same thing.
You know what I’m talking about.
Church leaders and teachers will do their best to introduce “Jesus” to the masses but at the same time deny the Messiah’s connection to His very own people, the Jewish people and their own land, Israel.
I would say the vast majority of liberal Christian churches would fall under this category.
The sad truth is that today at least half of the gentile church sides with Israel’s enemies concerning ownership of the Land of Israel.
The anti-Scriptural propaganda being promoted is that it’s only fair that some of the land be handed over to those “poor” and “persecuted” Palestinians.
They will say the action of divvying up the land and giving some of it to the Palestinians is in complete harmony with the “love” and “justice” that Jesus stood for.
Are you kidding me?!
You will not find one word in Scripture, not ONE that says Israel should give up their sacred land inheritance for the sake of “world peace and humanity“.
All of those liberal churches or secular governments who are attempting to thwart God’s plan concerning Israel’s land inheritance are in for a rude awakening.
They’re going to realize that the God of Israel does NOT change and will NEVER go back on the promise He made to Israel through Abraham.
And back to our study of Numbers, ten of the twelve scouts because of their lack of faith are also about to find out just how seriously the Lord takes His Covenants.
Man, it ain’t gonna be pretty.
NEXT TIME WE BEGIN NUMBERS CHAPTER FOURTEEN
