Today I want to take a different and creative slant on the five Levitical sacrifices by comparing them to a modern day insurance program.
Of course, this metaphorical comparison will be far from perfect, but I think it help further solidify in your mind the nuanced differences between the offerings.
So for this exercise’s sake, let’s call this imaginary system LEVITICAL UNINTENTIONAL SIN INSURANCE, the only program on earth that meets all of your unintentional sin needs.
Okay, like any modern day insurance program, a regular (usually monthly) deductible has to be paid on a regular basis, right?
I would say this is akin to the OLAH (Burnt Offering) and the MINCHAH (Grain Offering) sacrifices which had to be “paid” or offered up on a regular basis, except that these two sacrifices had to be offered up daily instead of monthly.
Now what is the purpose for paying your monthly deductible for your insurance whether it’s health insurance or car insurance or whatever?
It’s to MAINTAIN your eligibility in the insurance program.
This is similar to the OLAH and MINCHAH in that these two regular sacrifices were NOT offered up to pay for any specific infractions or sins per say.
They were “paid” to MAINTAIN your harmonious relationship with YHVH, so that when you do sin unintentionally, you will be eligible for the other benefits of the Levitical Unintentional Sin Insurance program.
Okay, so let’s say one day you get a little too tipsy on alcohol and while driving your car unintentionally crash into your neighbor’s garage.
And as a result, you break your leg and severely damage your neighbor’s garage door.
Well, the first thing that needs to be done is get your broken leg treated.
So you are speedily rushed to the hospital to get treatment.
You present your Levitical Unintentional Sin Insurance card to prove that you’re eligible because you have been “paying” your OLAHs and MINCHAHs on a regular basis.
Once your eligibility to receive treatment is verified, treatment begins on your broken leg that resulted due to your retarded behavior, as unintentional as it was.
So it is here, that you have to make a HATTA-AT (Purification Offering) “payment” to cover the costs needed to treat your leg.
Again, recall that the whole purpose of the HATTA-AT was to “purify” you from the devastating effects that sin has on your well-being.
In previous articles, I used the example of the HATTA-AT being like a powerful antidote needed to inoculate you from the effects of a deadly poison that has somehow entered your body.
Moving on, now that your leg has been treated, REPARATIONS now have to be paid to your neighbor for the damage you did to his garage door when you drove into it speeding at 40 miles per hour.
It is here that an ASHAM Offering has to be paid and do you recall what I’ve chosen to call the ASHAM Offering?
That’s right, a “Reparation Offering“.
If you weren’t enrolled in the Levitical Unintentional Sin Insurance program, you’d normally have to pay thousands of dollars that you can’t afford to cover the cost of the damage you did to your neighbor’s garage door.
However, instead you pay a one-time premium ASHAM deductible that covers the reparation costs that ensued due to your idiotic behavior.
Now there’s one caveat to the effectiveness of this Levitical Unintentional Sin Insurance program.
The system will not allow you to abuse it.
When you make your OLAH, MINCHAH, HATTA-AT, and ASHAM offerings, they have to be done with a repentant heart and a sincere desire to NOT engage in the retarded behavior that got you in this mess in the first place.
If the Lord finds out (and remember He can see into your heart) that you are still engaging in the behavior that got you into this mess in the first place, your Levitical sacrificial payments will no longer be effective.
And the reason is to adopt the attitude that it’s okay to sin because you can always make a payment to cover it would change your “unintentional behavior” to “intentional behavior“.
Now you may be wondering where does the ZEVAH or “Peace Offering” play into all of this?
Well, after all payments have been made, you feel so grateful for all the money saved because of the Levitical Unintentional Sin Program you’re enrolled in, that you decide to take some of your cash and donate it in the form of a ZEVAH to an “Against Drunk Driving Organization” as a FREE-WILL OFFERING.
So that’s the Levitical Unintentional Sin Insurance program for you in nutshell.
However, before closing, I would be remiss if I didn’t inform you of another “superior” insurance program that has been available since around the 1st century AD.
This program is called YESHUA UNINTENTIONAL & INTENTIONAL SIN INSURANCE.
Now this program is awesome.
There’s only a ONE-TIME deductible that has already been paid by the Father..
So it’s free!
All you have to do is with a sincere heart enroll with the understanding that it comes with certain terms and conditions that you are expected to obey.
This program will cover all your unintentional sins, and even cover the worst offenses you may have done that could NOT be covered by the Levitical program.
That’s right!
Yeshua’s program will save you from those sins that previously went under that judicial part of the Levitical System known as the “Curse of the Law”.
This program is far superior to any life insurance program you could ever enroll in because it goes beyond life, it covers you beyond the grave into eternity.
Enroll today while it’s still available!
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“Now every cohen stands every day doing his service,
offering over and over the same sacrifices,
which can never take away sins.
But this one,
after he had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins,
sat down at the right hand of God,
from then on to wait until his enemies
be made a footstool for his feet.
For by a single offering he has brought to the goal
for all time those
who are being set apart for God and made holy.”
