“The daughter of a priest who profanes herself by prostitution (ZONAH) profanes her father; she is to be put to death by fire.”-Leviticus 21:9
We have seen so far that the priests were held to a higher standard than the common population.
Here are four rules we’ve studied so far that applied ONLY to priests.
-Cannot make baldness on their head.
-Cannot tear their clothes as a mourning rite.
-Can only marry a virgin.
-Cannot touch a dead body.
Now with Leviticus 21:9, we see that it is not just the priests, but the priests’ family members as well who are to be held to a frighteningly higher standard.
If a daughter participates in prostitution, which is temple prostitution as was practiced by the inhabitants of Canaan, she is to be burnt by fire.
The execution by fire method is one of the most painful and harshest forms of punishment set aside for only the worst sins.
Since temple prostitution is prohibited, for a daughter of a priest of the Most High to engage in such activity would be idolatrous beyond the par.
We will find that when it comes to the Lord’s ordained worshipped practices, sex, money and religion are absolutely NOT to be mixed, which would result in TEVEL (confusion due to improper mixing).
For instance, look at this Scripture.
“You must not bring the earnings of a female temple prostitute or of a male temple prostitute into the house of the LORD your God to pay any vow, because the LORD your God detests them both.”-Deuteronomy 23:18
The Lord wanted to protect and keep His sanctuary free of filthy lucre.
Israel was NOT to be like the wicked nations around them.
