“You are not to have sexual relations with any kind of animal and thus become unclean with it; nor is any woman to present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; it is perversion.”-Leviticus 18:23
The Lord’s rulings on prohibited sexual behavior conclude with a firm command against sex between humans and animals.
Now what’s fascinating is the reason God provides to justify why this is wrong.
The Lord uses a term we’ve studied before.
He says bestiality is wrong because it is an act of TEVEL.
Do you remember that word?
It literally means “confusion” or “improper mixing”.
I think it is incorrect and misleading to use the word “perversion”.
The Lord is here speaking out against “confusion” or “improper mixing”.
The notion being expressed is that it is improper mixing to put man and beast together in a sex act.
This causes confusion and goes against order and purity.
Confusion is NOT something the Lord’s people are to participate in.
Keep in mind that this prohibition has absolutely nothing to do with the mixing of human racial groups.
The Lord only makes one distinction among human beings: that between Hebrews and Gentiles.
However, the line the Lord draws between Hebrews and Gentiles isn’t really about race because there are white Jews, black Jews, and Asian Jews, etcetera.
And throughout history, people of every skin color have always been welcome to join Israel if they renounced their pagan god worship and the perverse practices connected to such worship.
This verse is specifically against mixing people with animals.
