Yesterday I brought up and expounded on the question of why in the world aren’t miracles abounding in our day?
That’s the one thing Judges Chapter 6 gives us the answer to.
We’re told when the Israelites were obedient and faithful to God, miracles abounded.
When they weren’t obedient, miracles ceased.
This is why we can know there’s a big problem with the gentile church today.
Because miracles and God’s power isn’t happening as it should be.
I feel sorry for the gentile church because their theology prevents them from experiencing miracles.
Why?
Because they equate obeying God’s commands with something they call “legalism”.
And that’s a big no-no in their eyes.
Here’s the thing.
In Gideon’s day, the people didn’t stop believing in the Lord.
They stopped obeying the Lord.
That was the crucial difference that messed everything up for them.
They fell into idolatry and began adding other gods to what used to be their pure worship of HaShem.
Check out this verse from the 2nd Book of Chronicles.
“If I shut up the sky, so that there is no rain; or if I order locusts to devour the land; or if I send an epidemic of sickness among my people; then, if my people, who bear my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face and turn from their evil ways, I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears will pay attention to the prayer made in this place.”-2 Chronicles 7:13-14
Does this sound like God’s Law was nailed to the cross as so many gentile churches promote?
Anyone who has been studying with me for any length of time should know that in no way was the Law of Moses abolished.
I remind you of Yeshua’s words:
“Don’t think that I have come to abolish the Torah or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete. Yes indeed! I tell you that until heaven and earth pass away, not so much as a yud or a stroke will pass from the Torah — not until everything that must happen has happened. So whoever disobeys the least of these mitzvot and teaches others to do so will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But whoever obeys them and so teaches will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.“-Matthew 5:17-19
Also, take a good look at the last verse of the passage from 2 Chronicles I copied and pasted above.
Notice how it says “if my people will humble themselves and turn from evil, then I will hear their prayers”.
It sounds pretty darn clear to me.
When you obey (turn from evil), then expect God’s supernatural power to be present in your life.
When you don’t obey (willingly embrace evil), then expect God’s supernatural power to disappear from your life.
This IS the principle being spoken of here in Judges Chapter 6.
When the Israelites repented and turned from their evil ways, awesome miracles occurred.
When they didn’t, the opposite occurred.
Therefore, as I’ve been saying since the beginning of our study of Judges, the state of the gentile church today is the same as it was for Israel during the era of the Judges.
Just as Israel insisted they hadn’t abandoned Adonai even when they had added other gods to the mix, so too does the church behave in ways that are more in accordance with the fleshly doctrines of men who say the Law was done away with rather than Scripture.
Ya hear me?
