“When Y’hoshua had sent the people away, the people of Israel had gone each one to his assigned property in order to take possession of the land. The people served Adonai throughout Y’hoshua’s life and throughout the lives of all the older men who outlived Y’hoshua and who had seen all the great work of Adonai which he had done for Israel. When Y’hoshua the son of Nun, the servant of Adonai, died, he was 110 years old; and they buried him near the boundary of his property in Timnat-Heres, in the hills of Efrayim, north of Mount Ga‘ash.”-Joshua 2:6-9
Verses 6-10 copied and pasted above are a repeat of the last chapter in the book of Joshua (Chapter 24).
It appears that whoever edited the book of Judges wanted to establish a direct connection to the time of Joshua and Judges.
This brings up an important point.
All of the books of Scripture TOGETHER comprise an organic whole.
This is just like the human body.
The organs of our body separately mean nothing.
It’s when they come together to form a whole that meaning, function and purpose is established.
And of course, the same goes for the body of believers.
While it is true that one individual on fire for the Lord can accomplish great things, we are meant to be connected to the total body of believers.
Onward.
Verses 6 through 9 tell us that immediately following the covenant renewal ceremony at Shechem, the people agreed to live according to the Mosaic Covenant.
After their acknowledgement, Joshua released the people to their homes located in their new land inheritance, a gift from the Lord Himself.
The people served the Lord throughout not only Joshua’s life span but the lives of the elders who outlived him.
Finally, we’re told Joshua finished off his life in a way I believe every man would want to finish off his life.
He died at the ripe old age of 110 years.
And he was buried close to his ancestors on his own property inside of the Promised Land.
Being buried in the land meant Joshua received a privilege even Moses didn’t receive.
The rewards for obedience to Adonai are great indeed.
