There’s something really important I want you to catch about Israel’s situation during the time of Judges.
Notice that even after being saved Israel’s YETSER HARA or sin nature was still flaring hog wild out of control.
Man, there are so many lessons for us just literally exploding from the Scriptures here.
Can you see how Israel was so deluded?
They honestly believed it was cool to worship the pagan gods of BA’AL and ASHERAH and at the same time remain devoted to the One who had rescued them from Egypt.
As outside observers, we may think to ourselves…
“What a bunch of idiots!”
“How could Israel be so ungrateful and mix Ba’al worship with the holy ways they had learned from God at Sinai?”
Well, not so fast here homies.
It’s time to call a spade a spade.
Because gentile churches across the globe have been doing the very same thing ever since Rome infiltrated the pure Messianic faith as practiced by early followers of Yeshua.
On October 31st, how many churches think it’s okay to host celebrations paying homage to the pagan Celtic festival of Samhain?
In ancient times, this was a festival when people would light bonfires and put on costumes to ward off ghosts.
Of course, today we know this heathen holiday as Halloween.
How in the heck is this any different than what the ancient Israelites did when they mixed pagan worship with the pure ways they had received from Moses at Sinai?
Answer: It ain’t any different.
Of course, that ain’t the end of it.
What are considered the two holiest holidays in Christianity?
Easter and Christmas, right?
According to Newsweek, “Christmas trees are widely associated with the Christian holiday, but their origins are far from the Christ-worshipping standards they represent today“.
In fact, here’s something about American history you probably have no idea about.
Did you know the earliest Bible believing American settlers were against the Christmas tree trend that later took the country by storm.
Why?
Because the pagan origins of such a practice were no secret.
European pagans used to dress up their homes with the branches of evergreen fir trees and then later the Romans jumped in and adopted the same custom in honor of the god Saturn.
This Roman observance was called the festival of Saturnalia and it took place from December 17th to December 23.
I don’t think I need to go into too much detail about Easter.
I’ve already lambasted against it in several other posts.
In fact, I think I wrote about it just a couple of days ago.
Bottomline, Easter is none other than the English name for the fertility god ASHTORETH.
Why do you think Easter is characterized by eggs and rabbits?
It’s because those things symbolize fertility.
Enough said on that topic.
To close, look man I’ve heard all the arguments about why it ain’t no big deal for the church to incorporate what was originally pure paganism into their worship of the God of Israel and the Jewish Messiah.
Everything from totally misrepresenting and misunderstanding Rabbi Shaul (aka the Apostle Paul) when he said “Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath” .
Or putting forth the ridiculous idea that anything and everything is okay as long as it’s done with love in the name of Christ.
I can imagine the ancient Israelites made the same excuses when they intermarried with the Canaanites and participated in their pagan festivals to the gods.
Make no bones about it folks.
We are today reliving the period of the Book of Judges.
And what is the Lord’s response?
Look no further than Judges 2:2…
“…you, for your part, are not to make any covenant with the inhabitants of this land but must tear down their altars.’ However, you have paid no attention to what I said. What is this you have done?“
