“Shimshon went down with his father and mother to Timnah. When they came to the vineyards of Timnah, a young lion roared at him. The Spirit of Adonai came powerfully upon Shimshon, and barehanded he tore the lion to pieces as easily as if it had been a young goat. But he didn’t tell his father or mother what he had done.”-Judges 14:6
At Samson’s insistence, Samson’s parents reluctantly agreed to their son’s choice to marry a Philistine girl.
So they started on the journey to Timnah to arrange the marriage.
When they came to a vineyard lying on the outskirts of the Philistine village, Samson separated from his parents.
Even though the vineyard was the quickest and most direct path to Timnah, Samson couldn’t travel through it because he was a NAZIR.
Remember Nazarites can’t come into contact with grapes in any form.
So Samson took a roundabout path.
While he was walking he suddenly encountered a lion.
Surprised, the lion roared at Samson and leapt to attack.
God had plans to use this situation for His divine purposes so just in the nick of time the Spirit of the Lord came upon Samson giving him supernatural strength and boldness.
As a result, Samson tore the lion apart and killed it with his bare hands.
And when I say bare hands, I ain’t kidding man.
Samson mauled that lion without any weapon whatsoever.
This story is legendary and has even reached mythological proportions.
Pretty much every artistic depiction of this event shows Samson wrestling and taking down a fully grown male lion with a flowing mane and all.
But if we look at the original Hebrew, that’s just not the case.
There are actually five Hebrew words used to describe a lion based on its stage of growth.
The word GUR or גור refers to a baby cub.
And then at the total opposite end of the maturity scale is the word LAYISH or לַיִשׁ.
This refers to a lion at its most mature and biggest stage of growth…the type of lion that most folks mistakenly think Samson killed.
However, in between GUR and LAYISH are actually 3 other Hebrew words each indicating a specific stage of a lion’s development.
The second youngest stage following after GUR is KEPHIR or כְּפִיר.
That’s the type of lion Samson fought with.
Which means he really only killed a grown cub…
I mean it wasn’t even a young adult lion yet.
Don’t get me wrong however.
What Samson did was a feat far beyond what any normal human being could do.
But the truth of the matter is he didn’t kill a fully grown lion.
That would have been something if he did.
Why you keep posting these lies. Samson didn’t have braids, he had 7 locks and ONLY a black man can naturally grow 7 locks. Those Caucasian are not God’s chosen people by genealogy. I find it interesting how you follow the curse through Deuteronomy 28 but don’t say anything about the blessing. History repeats it self and you want to wear it like a badge. You are suppose to learn from history so you don’t repeat the same mistakes, not to use it to drag yourself down. Your alternative history is interesting but we see God chose to use Moses in the Torah and not the later history that you refer to. Maybe God knows something that you don’t know! The people were scattered because they were rebellious and did evil things. They were not scattered be cause they were so righteous and had it all together. Learn to see things from Gods perspective and repent so He help you get back on track and stay there.
