“Manoach said to his wife, ‘We will surely die, because we have seen God!’ But his wife said to him, ‘If Adonai had wanted to kill us, he wouldn’t have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering from us, and he wouldn’t have shown us all this or told us such things at this time.'”-Judges 13:22-23
Manoach is freaking the hell out.
He realized God Himself had just appeared in front of him and he had enough Torah knowledge to know that spelled certain death.
Fortunately, a cooler head prevailed: his wife.
She told him it wouldn’t make any sense that the Angel of the Lord would choose to appear before them, prophesy the birth of their future child, and then hand out careful instructions on how to raise that child only to kill them.
She also reminded her husband the Angel of the Lord had accepted the OLAH and MINCHAH sacrifices he had offered up earlier.
And true to the Angel of the Lord’s Word, nine months later, Manoach’s wife gave birth to a son.
They called him Shimshon.
Of course, everyone in the English-speaking world knows him as Samson.
The young boy grew up and true to God’s Word, he was greatly blessed.
Notice verse 24:
It says…“The child grew, and Adonai blessed him“.
There’s an important takeaway here I don’t want you to miss.
The author of Judges is pointing out that Samson was blessed BOTH physically (he grew up) and spiritually (Adonai blessed him).
It’s important to know that the Lord wants to heal and bless you in all ways…not just in some vague spiritual way.
When Yeshua came to earth, he healed BOTH the people’s physical and spiritual ailments.
Or consider how one of the writers of the New Testament said what good is preaching the gospel to someone if you ignore his or physical needs?
Yes, the Lord wants to accomplish a total and complete healing for us: physical, mental and spiritual.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“Some men came,
bringing to him a paralyzed man,
carried by four of them.
Since they could not get him
to Yeshua because of the crowd,
they made an opening in the roof above
Yeshua by digging through it and then
lowered the mat the man was lying on.
When Yeshua saw their faith,
he said to the paralyzed man,
‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’
Now some teachers of the law
were sitting there, thinking to themselves,
‘Why does this fellow talk like that?
He’s blaspheming!
Who can forgive sins but God alone?’
Immediately Yeshua knew in his spirit this was what
they were thinking in their hearts,
and he said to them,
‘Why are you thinking these things?
Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man,
‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say,
‘Get up, take your mat and walk’?
But I want you to know that the Son of Man
has authority on earth to forgive sins.”
So he said to the man,
‘I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.’
He got up, took his mat
and walked out in full view of them all.
This amazed everyone
and they praised God, saying,
‘We have never seen anything like this'”
