Here are 3 truth bombs demonstrating just how bad Israel had fallen from grace within the short period of about 10 to 15 years after Joshua passed away.
The glory days of Israel when all the tribes had acted as one unit were now gone.
Things had rapidly descended from a “What can I do for my neighbor?” way of thinking to a “What’s in it for me?” attitude.
The following truth bombs give us an accurate portrayal of what Israel was like in the period between Joshua’s rulership and King Josiah.
And for those who don’t know (I would say most of you) King Josiah was the king who ruled over Judah from 640 to 609 B.C.
Alrighty, here are the truth bombs.
Truth Bomb 1:
During this time, hardly any copies of the Torah had been created and for sure no common citizen possessed a copy. In fact, by the time King David came on the scene, it appears the first five books of Moses were pretty much lost and were well on their way to being forgotten.
Truth Bomb 2:
Once the tribes were settled in their assigned territories, the influence of the Priesthood had greatly weakened to the point where they struggled to survive.
Truth Bomb 3:
The clear lines of demarcation that defined the role of a priest and a Levite Tabernacle worker had become fuzzy. For instance, remember how the Levites were supposed to receive 48 cities inside the tribal territories? Well, that never really happened. Only a few cities were handed over. And the donations they were to receive in order to live were barely enough to make ends meet. This forced some Levites to seek work outside of their God-ordained duties.
See you all next time.
