“On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Israelites celebrated the Passover. The day after the Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land: unleavened bread and roasted grain. The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate the produce of Canaan.”-Joshua 5:10-12
We’re told after the mass circumcision ceremony, the people celebrated Passover on the 14th of the month.
So what kind of timeline are we looking at here?
Well, we know the Hebrews crossed over the Jordan on the 10th day.
Afterwards, they were probably circumcised on the 12th or the 13th day.
And then afterwards on the 14th, they celebrated their first Passover in the land.
Immediately following Passover on the 15th, they celebrated the Feast of Matza.
We’re told they ate a combination of Matza and roasted grain.
Next, we’re told it was the very next day that the provision of Manna came to a halt and the people began to eat food grown in the Promised Land.
Now there’s one thing simple fact that’s impossible to sidestep here folks.
Once Israel crossed over the Jordan from the Wilderness into their promised land inheritance, their diet underwent a revolutionary change.
Instead of the Manna they had pretty much eaten daily during their entire wilderness journey, they would now be eating from the fruits of the Promised Land.
They would begin eating a true Biblically kosher diet.
See, here’s what you homies have got to know.
The Kosher eating laws really didn’t take full effect until AFTER Israel crossed over the Jordan, received their 2nd circumcision and inherited their Promised land.
This reminds me of another point of hypocrisy I see with a lot of gentile churches.
The gentile church does recognize how the Jordan crossing represents Israel’s salvation, yet this recognition has not translated into action in terms of their diet.
The Scriptures make it clear that after Israel’s wandering in the Wilderness ended and…
…after they received their 2nd circumcision…
…they did NOT continue to eat the food of their wandering.
Yet the gentile church in spite of their faith in the Jewish Messiah, continues to eat the food they ate while they were still slaves to sin.
Or to use a Scriptural metaphor, they continue to eat the food they ate while still slaves in Egypt even after being born again.
Can you see how diet plays such a key role in understanding Hashem’s holy principles?
AFTER the Passover in Egypt, Israel’s diet underwent a radical transformation from eating the food of their slave masters to eating Manna from heaven.
And here in Joshua Chapter 5, we see that AFTER their first Passover in Canaan, again their diet radically transformed from eating Manna to eating food grown and produced in their land inheritance.
A true Biblically Kosher diet!
The takeaway here is obvious.
Diet is important to HASHEM.
It’s very important to HASHEM.
After having our hearts circumcised, we are meant to eat according to what is prescribed in the Scriptures and not the pepperoni pizzas and pork hot dogs you see at so many gentile church barbecues.
And no, I’m not saying that following God’s diet plan is necessary to be saved.
It’s what you should do AFTER you are saved.
I mean, you should have a natural and earnest desire to eat a Biblically Kosher diet.
Remember, we are called to be separate in EVERY area of our life.
