Today we begin Joshua Chapter 3.

In chapter 3, we witness a promise thousands of years in the making.
The children of Israel finally, finally enter into their land inheritance the Lord first promised to Abraham.
“I will always keep the promise I have made to you and your descendants, because I am your God and their God. I will give you and them the land in which you are now a foreigner. I will give the whole land of Canaan to your family forever, and I will be their God.”-Genesis 17:7-8
Is there any event more inspiring than this?!
I want to share two awesome patterns that can be easily overlooked if not pointed out.
FIRST, recall that Israel’s exodus from Egypt BEGAN with them crossing over the Red Sea and…
…that it ENDED with them crossing over the Jordan River.
In other words, Israel’s ENTRY into the Wilderness and their EXIT out of the Wilderness occurred via symbolic baptism through water.
This is not coincidental.
SECOND, just as the very first Passover held in Egypt marked the official end to Israel’s servitude to Pharaoh…
…in a later chapter in Joshua, we’ll see that the first Passover celebrated in the Holy Land marked the official end to Israel’s wandering in the Wilderness.
There are other mind-blowing patterns buried within the text that I’ll try to point out when we come to them.
We’ll start our text study with the very first verse of Joshua the next time we meet.
