A quick question for you here.
Have you ever purchased an online course but never really did anything with it?
I know I have.
I’ve got tons of online courses that are just sitting in the cloud collecting digital dust waiting for me to access them.
Well, in a sense the Law that God gave to Moses was kind of similar.
It was like an online course sitting in the clouds waiting to be activated.
Much of it could not be implemented until Israel entered the Land of Canaan and possessed it.
And much of it couldn’t be applied until the land was conquered.
As we transition out of the Torah into the book of Joshua, we move from theory to practice.
From flight training in a lab to actually flying a real airplane.
And if you think about it, this is how our walk as a new believer was once we were born again.
We were exposed to a new and holy way to live our lives but as we soon found out, knowing and doing are two totally different things.
In fact, we found out that until we actually did it, we didn’t really know it.
So keep this concept front of mind as we dive headfirst into Joshua Chapter 24.
And incidentally, the purpose Joshua gathered Israel in Chapter 24 is different than the purpose he gathered them in Chapter 23.
Some scholars will say Joshua was forming a new covenant with Israel here because of the structure of this chapter.
However, this cannot be.
Because the Lord only made one covenant with Israel through Moses that was to be eternal.
Hence, this chapter was all about the renewing of the first covenant that was given.
That’s why you won’t ever hear about a Covenant of Joshua.
And I know what you’re thinking homies.
You’re wondering...”what about the New Covenant sealed with Yeshua’s blood?”, right?
“Is that also a so-called ‘renewed’ covenant?”
The answer is yes, the same goes for the so-called “New” Covenant.
Because the New Covenant ain’t really new.
It’s a RENEWED covenant, which is how some scholars prefer to refer to it.
