Today we begin Joshua Chapter 22 and man I tell you this chapter is just jam-packed to the hilt with theological treasures.
We could literally spend months on this chapter if we wanted to.
Unfortunately, given time restrictions, we’re gonna be forced to focus on just a few main principles.
Let’s start with the big idea being presented in this chapter.
The main theme underlying all of Joshua 22 is exactly HOW are the people of God who live OUTSIDE the land of Israel to live?
This is an important question and of course it’s something that affects all gentile believers everywhere who live outside the land.
The tribes of Reuben, Gad and 1/2 of Manasseh, because they would be dwelling on east of the Jordan River (again, outside of Canaan), would be separated from God’s temple and from the Priesthood.
This situation brings up a whole bunch of difficult questions like…
…is there a correct way to worship the Lord when not in the land?
Or is there another special location they should go to in order to properly worship God?
And, what is the proper definition of God’s people to be in this particular situation?
Finally, for the gentile believer, this brings up probably one of the most perplexing and controversial questions of them all.
Does sincerity and love for God supersede our need to obey Hashem’s clearly spelled out commands in His Torah?
A disclaimer.
I highly doubt we’re going to come to agreement on any of these points but that’s what’s great about this chapter.
It’s filled with tons of theological golden nuggets that will keep us scratching our heads for months to come.
See you all next time when we dive into our text study.

Hello Brother, if we see the promise land as a type of the kingdom of GOD, knowing that everything changes according to Deut. 12 v8-9 as ADONAI takes us in,we can see things a bit different, Amen.
