Above we have a map showing where the 48 Levitical cities were located.
But remember what I’ve said before.
Any map in existence from the ancient world is nothing more or less than some scholar’s best educated guess.
And of course, this map is no exception.
All of the indicated locations are just educated guesses at best.
Not only that.
Over hundreds of years, the original locations of the Levitical cities have been renamed multiple times and some of these areas have now been reduced to rubble buried under tons of dirt and no one even knows they are there anymore.
New towns have been built over some of the locations and highways have been paved over them.
In other areas, farmers have planted fields and large fruit gardens on top of what used to be vibrant villages and now they’ll probably never be discovered again.
But archaeologists keep digging up more and more history.
One complication is we now know that a large part of all of the buried ruins are situated miles deep underneath what is today called the city of Bet Shan.
This relatively new city is now a thriving metropolis with shopping centers, apartments and attracts thousands of tourists every year (at least it did before Covid).
Therefore, it would be practically impossible to excavate it today without destroying the its current modern infrastructure.
