“They left, arrived in the hills, and stayed there three days, until the pursuers had returned. The pursuers had searched for them all the way but hadn’t found them. Then the two men returned. Descending from the hills they crossed over and came to Y’hoshua the son of Nun, and reported everything that had happened to them. Truly Adonai has handed over all the land to us,’they told Y’hoshua. ‘Everyone in the land is terrified that we’re coming.’”-Joshua 2:22-24
One topic that has been argued for centuries on end is how to properly classify the gentile believer in Messiah.
The debates can literally go on forever.
Is a gentile believer in Messiah now an Israelite with a gentile body?
Or is he or she still a gentile but now has an Israelite spirit residing within his or her body?
No one can say for sure but one thing that is certain is that the gentile believer today is in the same mysterious position as Rahab was once she declared faith in the God of Israel.
She’s neither a Hebrew nor a gentile (enemy of God) but had become something else entirely.
And all kinds of terms have been concocted to describe such a person such as “Spiritual Israelite” or “Ger Toshav”.
But truthfully, who gives two hoots?!
What really matters is that the gentile believer through faith in the Jewish Messiah is saved.
Onward.
The closing verses of Joshua Chapter 2 tell us that the spies paid heed to Rahab’s words and hid out in the mountain for 3 days until the soldiers grew tired of looking for them and returned to Jericho.
The spies crossed back over the Jordan and went to Joshua to give him their report.
They were all excited.
Why?
Because the people of Canaan were shaking in their boots.
They knew they were already defeated.
The 2 spies were exhilarated and couldn’t wait to tell the people that victory was now their’s for the taking.
Quite a different attitude than the majority of spies from the 1st generation who went out to spy the land.
NEXT TIME WE BEGIN JOSHUA CHAPTER THREE
