One of the major themes the author of the book of Joshua gives us is that…
…the promises and prophecies in the Torah given to the Patriarchs concerning the distribution of the land followed the EXACT pattern God said it would.
It reminds me of what Yeshua told his disciples when he said…
“Yes indeed! I tell you that until heaven and earth pass away, not so much as a yud or a stroke will pass from the Torah — not until everything that must happen has happened.”-Matthew 5:18
The book of Joshua stands as a record to let us know that the correct person distributed the land and that the correct persons received the land.
But more importantly, we’re also informed that those people in Israel who were to be excluded from receiving any land were NOT given any land or land responsibilities.
Have any idea who I might be talking about?
If you answered the priests and the Tribe of Levi, BINGO, you nailed it.
Heck, even the matter of the ever increasing and decreasing population numbers of the Israelite tribes is taken into account and it’s made clear to us that this was so the Lord could bring about His plans for all of Israel.
And I love how we’re reminded that the land inheritance for each tribe was for the common good of the citizens of Israel per God’s love and His promises.
This had nothing to do with some selfish and earthly king who just randomly handed out tracts of land to his political partners for his own benefit.
