There’s another reason why God ordered the destruction of the northern kings’ coalition of horses and chariots.
This is something that might seem too obvious and fly right by our heads.
Let me start off by asking you this question:
What kind of war is being fought here?
The answer is…
…a holy war, right?
And what guiding principle is front and center when it comes to holy war?
Is it not the Law of HEREM or the Ban?
In other words, according to holy war protocol, the horses and chariots were war booty that God had decided to keep back for Himself.
Thus, the horses and chariots per the Lord’s decision instantly fell under the status of holy property.
This meant they were forbidden to be used by anyone else.
And how is the Lord’s holy property delivered unto Him?
It is destroyed..usually by fire.
So beyond the purely practical, this is another key reason why God ordered the horses and chariots be destroyed.
It was done per the Law of Herem or the Ban.
Onward.
Once the tables had been firmly turned on the enemy forces, Joshua seized Hatzor (the main city in the north).
He then killed King Yavin, slaughtered all of the city’s citizens and burned the city down to the ground.
Again, this is a classic application of the Law of Herem in action that was done in exact accordance to the instructions God gave to Moses just a few years earlier.
