I finished up yesterday’s post by pointing out that the Lord instructed Joshua to be strong and fiercely bold about two things.
Do you recall what they were?
The two things were the Land (of Canaan) and the Law He had given to Moses.
Let’s talk about the “Law” part of the equation for a second.
The Lord made it clear to Joshua…
…he was to not only be courageous in obeying the Law but to make sure Israel also obeyed the Law.
Again, don’t overlook the fact that the reason God is telling Joshua to be bold and courageous for the Law is because he’s gonna need that boldness and courage.
Why?
Because just as it was for Moses, he’s going to encounter resistance to the Torah from many quarters.
Let me ask you this.
As a fellow believer who believes in fighting for and staying faithful to the One true God and His Torah, have you ever…
…been accused of being legalistic?
Or have have you been accused of abandoning grace and instead choosing the Law to save you?
Or maybe you’ve been told you’ve joined a cult.
Or that you’ve committed the crime of trying to become Jewish.
Folks, as hard as it may to be to believe, there are still a ton of ignorant churchgoers out there who really believe Yeshua was some white-skinned European guy with a Greek name.
I mean the whole white supremacist KKK movement is based on this idea that Yeshua was NOT a Jew.
Super idiocy, right?
Such is the extent of the misinformation and ignorance that exists in our world today.
It can be tiring and discouraging to combat this ignorance day after day after day.
Yet, Hashem tells us to be bold and courageous!
He’s already forewarned us that we’re going to face tough times.
But He’s also reassured us that He will never forsake us.
The battle is going to last our entire life and the journey may be frightening and downright lonely at times.
However, that’s why we’re given Scripture.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again.
The Holy Scripture we hold in our hands is really a Holy War manual more than anything.
A lot of folks like to hold up the Bible as a book of only love and peace.
Really?
This is a book that rightly commands the extermination of a whole race of wicked people…literally killing off every man, woman and child.
And it’s a book that ends in a bloody war that will result in the death of millions of people to be concluded at a place call Har-Megiddo or “Armageddon” in English.
Folks, the story of Joshua warring to conquer the Promised Land is a model for the war we will fight here in this world.
And make no bones about it.
It will be a war.
There will be long hours of hard labor and there will be times of defeat.
Yet there will also be times of success and we can rest assured that the ultimate victory will go to God’s redeemed.
There is absolutely no better book than the Scriptures to prepare us for the harsh realities of what we will face in this lifetime.
So buckle down and get ready to study in preparation for the battle ahead.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“Don’t suppose that I have come to bring peace to the Land.
It is not peace I have come to bring, but a sword!
-Matthew 10:34
