Alrighty folks!
From today, I’m going to be kicking off a high level review of the Five Books of Moses.
Over the past five years, we’ve taken a verse-by-verse and chapter-by-chapter microscopic approach to our study of the Torah.
However, in the next couple of weeks, I’m going to give you the big picture so to speak.
This study will be perfect for those pastors, preachers and teachers who wish to take their congregation through the whole foundation of the Bible in just a couple of weeks instead of having to spend many years doing it.
This review of the first section of the Bible will also prepare us for our study the Book of Joshua set to begin in a couple of weeks.
Historically speaking Joshua is simply the natural continuation of the Torah and the literal fulfillment of God’s promise to bring His People into the land.
I also feel taking this big picture approach is important because it allows us to step back, take a deep breath and see the inspiring flow of how the Lord worked through history from the very beginning and His progressive revelation to mankind.
So let’s get started.
The first five books of Moses, also known as “the former Prophets” is essentially the starting history of the nation of Israel.
We’re told why Israel was created, who created Israel as well as the purpose for Israel’s existence.
Again, this seems to be a major point a lot of church pastors miss or deliberately overlook.
Israel is the skeleton to which the meaty flesh of the entire Scripture is attached.
Minus understanding that point, the New Testament can and actually has been interpreted in 20 billion different ways.
All one has to do is take a look at all the ridiculously large number of Christian denominations out there each upholding their own set faith doctrines and…
…each one absolutely convinced that they themselves are the only bearer of the Lord’s truth to the exclusion of everyone else.
Fortunately, this ignorance is starting to change.
The gentile church is finally starting to wake up to the fact that Israel ain’t some obsolete dispensation who was replaced by a group of uncircumcised gentiles.
Never forget that it is Israel AND ONLY ISRAEL who has introduced God’s holy principles, values and justice system to the world.
And it is these same principles that the Messiah came to fulfill so that mankind could be saved and have peace with God.
