The way the Levites were presented in relation to the 12 tribes of Israel surrounding the tabernacle presents us with a powerful spiritual picture.
Remember I mentioned that the Levites surrounded the tabernacle like a protective moat around a castle.
The 12 tribes were stationed further away from God’s dwelling place.
What we have here is the principle of MEDIATION being presented to us.
The people of Israel CANNOT go directly to God.
They have to go through God’s chosen mediators, which in this case will become the soon to be set-apart Levite tribe.
The people went to the priests who went to God for them.
Now recall the following verse way back from chapter 2 of Exodus speaking about Moses.
“Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months.”
I told you to remember that Moses was a Levite because this fact would become significant later on.
And now we know why.
God had chosen the Levites to become His specially chosen intermediaries.
And recall that there are ONLY TWO MEDIATORS between man and God in the Scriptures.
Moses and Yeshua.
Of course, the Levite tribe and how they mediated for the people of Israel foreshadowed an important part of Yeshua’s ministry.
Yeshua was to be our high priest.
He was to be our Mediator between God and the people.
Not one person on this planet, in the past, present or future, or Jew or Gentile, can come to the true ONE GOD unless they go through His designated mediator.
We go to the Messiah who goes to the Father for us.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
Yeshua answered,
“I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.”
