One of the prominent features of the lid or Mercy Seat of the Ark of the Covenant were the Cherubim.
However, one thing for sure is that nobody really knows what these interesting creatures actually looked like.
All of the various pictures and images we have today ranging from cute chubby babies with short wings attached to them to man-like creatures with wings stretching from head to toe are products of men’s imaginations and are just best guesses as to what they looked like.
The Cherubim make their first appearance in the Garden of Eden.
“He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.”-Genesis 3:24
The Jewish sages also had something interesting to say about the cherubim.
Recall the Living Creatures I discussed in a previous post.
I said these Living Creatures had faces that were identical to the symbols of the four dominant Israelite tribes with one creature being located on each of the four sides of the Tabernacle.
Well, according to the Jewish Sages, these “living creatures” or “living beings” are to be considered as Cherubim.
Check out this Scripture verse from the Book of Ezekiel:
“Each of the cherubim had four faces:
One face was that of a cherub,
the second the face of a human being,
the third the face of a lion,
and the fourth the face of an eagle.“
-Ezekiel 10:14
Hmmm, so it seems like there is truth to what the sages were saying.
Also, the original Hebrew “KERUVIM” is derived from a root that suggests “hybrid” or “composite“.
In Scripture, the Cherubim are a type of guardian or servant being for the Lord.
So it shouldn’t surprise us to find them in the Holiest of Holies symbolically guarding the holiest object on earth.
Finally, in Scripture, we have another vivid description of a very famous Cherub.
This cherub was one of the Lord’s most anointed and most beautiful of the Cherubim.
Until he decided to rebel against God.
The world has never been the same since.
“You were the signet of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
You were in Eden, the garden of God;
every precious stone was your covering,
sardius, topaz, and diamond,
beryl, onyx, and jasper,
sapphire, emerald, and carbuncle;
and crafted in gold were your settings
and your engravings.
On the day that you were created
they were prepared.
You were an anointed guardian cherub.
I placed you;
you were on the holy mountain of God;
in the midst of the stones of fire you walked.
You were blameless in your ways
from the day you were created,
till unrighteousness was found in you.
-Ezekiel 28:12-15

When Adam and Eve were kicked out of the Garden of Eden, was that also the downfall of Lucifer? because he had placed himself above God and led Eve into the first sin of mankind. I am a Christian so I know you don’t write G-d and, then, did Lucifer take mans likeness. As well, because man, is as low as the earth that we, were formed from. Lucifer was the morning star casted out or down. So that led to this quest? the mark of man come from Lucifer leading man into the first known sin in Genesis.
