“So Moses went back and summoned the elders of the people and set before them all the words the LORD had commanded him to speak. The people all responded together, “We will do everything the LORD has said.” So Moses brought their answer back to the LORD.”-Exodus 19:7-8
One of the primary objectives of this site is to demonstrate that God didn’t just set up His divine patterns and plans, establish them, and then have them recorded in the Torah just so he could change everything up on us at a later time.
Yet, so many of the Christian leaders, Bible professors, and teachers I’ve heard strongly imply or state outright that this is exactly what God did.
It’s like God did a bait and switch.
Going back to my metaphor from the last post, it’s like God originally gave mankind an old, defective, and inferior telephone that He knew from the beginning man wouldn’t be able to use and then later replaced it with a better, new & improved model.
Are you kidding me?
I think we all need to read chapter 5 of Matthew very carefully and really seriously consider what Yeshua is saying here.
It CLEARLY SAYS that Yeshua Himself taught that NOT the slightest element of the Torah had been removed with His coming and that those who teach otherwise will be considered the LEAST in the Kingdom of Heaven.
On the contrary, those who teach ALL of God’s Word will be considered the greatest!
Now I want to demonstrate from this chapter 19 of Exodus that the principle for entering into a relationship with God is EXACTLY THE SAME today as it was for ancient Israel at Mount Sinai 3400 years ago.
Its about time we really internalize the fact that our God is ETERNAL and UNCHANGING.
Remember YHVH exists outside the dimension of time.
Notice in verse 19:7 that God instructs Moses to take His message to the people who after receiving it are to take some time to process its contents before giving Moses their final answer concerning whether or not they will accept God’s teachings and observe them.
To put it simply, God is extending an offer to Israel to be their God and if the people accept, they of course will be obligated to obeys His teachings and commandments.
By the way, not all 3 million Israelites were gathered in front of Moses to speak.
Only the elders were gathered in front of Moses.
They would receive the message from Moses and then take it back to the people.
So, there was probably a few days time gap between verses 7 and 8.
Now I want you to notice the pattern established here.
First, God makes Himself known to the people.
Second, He asks them “Will you trust, listen, surrender and obey me?”
Third, if they accept this invitation, then they enter into a PERSONAL relationship with Him where they learn to walk in His Ways by OBEYING HIS COMMANDS.
Now notice that the above three steps are the EXACT same procedures one goes through when “coming to Christ”.
We are first made aware of Yeshua’s presence.
Next an invitation is extended to us to become one of His disciples.
Finally, we enter into a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with Him where we are to love Him by walking according to the Father’s Will.
And what is the Father’s Will?
It is OBEYING HIS COMMANDMENTS!
Is there any other definition?
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“If you love me, keep my commands.”
-John 14:15
“This is when perseverance is needed on the part of God’s people,
those who observe his commands and exercise Yeshua’s faithfulness.“
-Revelations 14:12
those who observe his commands and exercise Yeshua’s faithfulness.“
-Revelations 14:12
