Today represents the last post of our Torah overview.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this review of the key events that have led us up to the next great event in Israel’s history: entering the Promised Land.
The time is now around 1300 BC.
The younger 2nd generation of Israelites are standing on the east side of the Jordan River waiting for orders to launch their offensive on the Canaanites.
However, before that happens, Moses dies and the people mourn him for 30 days.
We should take a moment to pause and consider that Moses was the greatest prophet in the Bible…
…and the only man who spoke audibly with God face-to-face.
Before his death, Moses climbed up Mount Nebo and was given a sweeping and supernatural view of the Promised Land.
This was similar to how the Apostle John was given a future view of heaven when he was “carried away by the spirit”.
In the closing chapter of Deuteronomy, we’re told that it was God Himself who buried Moses and to this day no one knows exactly where his grave is located.
Joshua has now been anointed the new leader who will lead God’s people into the Promised Land.
And just a reminder, in the Hebrew language, the spelling of Yeshua and Joshua are exactly the same.
Y’hoshua means “Savior” in Hebrew.
Just as Y’hoshua led the ancient Israelites into the Promised Land, so in the near future will another one named Y’hoshua lead Israel…
…but this time, it ain’t gonna be just to take the Promised Land.
It’s gonna be to save Israel and take the whole world.
The next time we meet, we shall begin the Book of Joshua.
