We’re currently in the midst of analyzing the specific route the Israelites took when they hightailed it out of Egypt.
In my last post I stated that the Lord told Moses to take the people to the Mountain of God which today is called Mount Sinai.
So the question is…
…where exactly is this “Mountain of God”?
In order to find the answer, we need to backtrack back to when Moses was still in the court of Pharaoh but soon afterwards killed the Egyptian guard and then fled to avoid being arrested.
Do you recall the specific name of the area where Scripture tells us he fled to?
We’re told he he went to the land of Midian.
And from BOTH a geographical and archeological perspective, we know without a doubt where Midian is located.
That’s right.
The location of Midian is undisputed no matter which scholarly or academic circle you go to for reference.
Midian is located on the western tip of what is today known as the Arabian Peninsula.
Let me say that again homies.
Midian is situated on the western end of the Arabian Peninsula.
Ain’t nobody gonna or can dispute that.
This is exactly where Hashem spoke to Moses through the Burning Bush on the hilltop.
Here is the Scripture reference in chapter 3 of Exodus:
“Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.”-Exodus 3:1-2
Moses was still in Midian and he had travelled to the west side of the desert wilderness.
Now let’s jump down to Exodus verse 12.
And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”-Exodus 3:12
So this leads us to the 12 billion dollar question…
…is this the same mountain that Moses was to bring the Israelites to meet the Lord after they had left Egypt?
We’ll continue this discussion the next time we meet.
