Today let’s quickly talk about the origin of the term “anti-Semitism”.
Originally the word “semite” comes from the word “Shemite”.
And where does the word “Shemite” come from?
It’s actually a term invented by a scholar about 200 years ago used to refer to all of the many descendants of Noah’s son Shem.
Once this scholar (and no I don’t know who the name of the scholar is) coined this term, the term “Semite” stuck and that’s what we say today.
Now genealogically speaking, Abraham was a Semite who descended from Shem’s bloodline.
However, culturally speaking, Abraham was most likely very much like the Amorite people which was an evil people group whom the Lord eventually marked for destruction.
Understand that being labelled a semite is NOT restricted a specific geographical region or a particular culture.
It is referring to a very large specific family which sprang from a very specific gene pool.
In our day and age, we use the term “anti-Semitic” to refer to prejudice or racism against the Jewish people but in its purest sense this word simply means to be against the sons of Shem.
And the sons of Shem encompasses a heck of a lot more folks than just those Israelites who sprang from the Tribe of Judah (A “Jew” is one who sprang from the Tribe of Judah).
For example, did you know that the Arabs are also sons of Shem?
That’s right homies.
The Arabs are also descended from the loins of Abraham through Hagar who bore Ishmael and can also rightly call Abraham their father.
That’s why I find it ironic as heck that the most belligerent anti-Semites are themselves actually sons of Shem.
They’re attacking their own bloodline when they seek the destruction of the Jews.
