The Scriptures tell us that the Lord’s formal name is YHWH.
Understand that many of the other terms or labels used to refer to the God of Israel such as El Shaddai were NOT names.
Rather they were impersonal titles used to emphasize a personal characteristic or attribute of God.
Now one of the most universally debated topics in the Biblical world is how in the hell do you properly pronounce YHVH?
Bible scholars call the four Hebrew letters that represent God’s name the Tetragrammaton.
Obviously YHWH is a rendering using our English alphabet.
Originally, the very finger of the Lord when He engraved His name on those stone slabs was written as follows:
יהוה
Regardless, whether written using English or Hebrew letters, since all we have are the consonants and…
…since the Jewish people have a longstanding tradition of not saying Hashem’s formal name out loud…
…we have no choice but to guess what the proper vowel sounds are.
The most popular and typical renderings are YAH-WAY or YAH-VEY.
However, a lot of recent linguistic evidence tells us that YHVH consisted of 3 syllables instead of 2.
Hence, YE-HO-VEH or JEHOVAH is probably a more accurate rendering.
Of course, we can’t say 100% for sure.
Veronica Buxton says
I’ve always pronounced it altogether with no vowel sounds. Hence it is unpronounceable. It sounds like a like an outward breath. Which is what YHVH did to Adam and Yeshua did to his apostles. Breathing through a pursed mouth.

Interesting Veronica. This is the first time I’m hearing this.
Lynn Altman says
This is what I was taught on the pronunciation of God’s name:
God’s name is also His Breath of Life: (YH) entered into Adam and then he breathed out (WH)
we literally speak His name with each breath
we take our first breath and speak the name of God.(YHWH)
God unites us all … every living creature breathes HIS NAME and gives HIM praise!.
Worship and prayer are distinctive we are lovingly with purpose using our breath to Worship and to Praise our God, our creator, YHWH King of the Universe.

Great stuff Lynn. Thanks for sharing.
Harold Blalock says
With YE-HO-VEH or JEHOVAH is the HO pronounced long O or like HA?
Also with Y’HOSHUA is the HO long O or like HA?
Do you know of a place I can hear the sound?
Thank you.

They didn’t have iPhones that could record back in the Biblical era. So sorry but don’t have recordings of how the ancient Hebrews pronounced the Lord’s personal Name.
