“If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the Lord your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your ancestors. He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land—your grain, new wine and olive oil—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you.”-Deuteronomy 7:12-13
Let me ask you a question about being a parent.
Have you ever sat down with your son or daughter after some rebellious episode they had instigated and tried to talk some sense into them about their unruly behavior but they just didn’t seem to be getting it?
You were doing your darnedest to try and get your message across but rather than receiving the reassuring response you were hoping for, instead you were met with a blank and disinterested stare as if they had just smoked about 500 pounds of marijuana.
I betcha a replay of this exasperating situation occurs in family households across the globe on a daily basis.
Understand this is pretty much the situation Moses was in as he looked into the faces of thousands of young second generation Israelites.
He was trying his best to communicate in so many different ways just how important it was to obey God’s Torah…hoping that at the least some of the nuances of his message would reach into their hearts.
Yet…at the same time, Moses was also aware as soon as he finished delivering his message, these up-and-coming Israelites were somehow in someway going to end up slipping and rebelling against the Lord just as their forefathers had.
Nevertheless, Moses tries his best to persuade his audience to be obedient by informing them of the many blessings they will receive if they will just be diligent in keeping God’s Torah.
He informs them that…
…they will produce many healthy babies which will cause Israel’s population to blossom.
…they will have fertile soil which will produce an abundance of crops and their animals will continue to grow in numbers.
…they will not have to worry about diseases or pestilence (unlike their enemies who will be stricken by all manner of diseases).
In addition, the Lord will make sure Israel is victorious when battling their enemies.
But here’s the catch.
God will only cause Israel to be victorious in battle IF THEY SHOW THEIR ENEMIES NO MERCY!
Now when was the last time you heard that teaching in a house of worship?
Probably never, right?
That’s because so many congregations are too afraid to teach and preach ALL of God’s Word especially the parts dealing with His judgements and acts of vengeance.
All they wanna focus on is the maple syrupy, plain vanilla, no-matter-what-you-do-don’t-offend-anyone “love” of God.
For those of you who would think God is cruel for ordering the Israelites to show no mercy to their enemies, let me remind you that the God of Israel just also happens to be the God of everyone and everything.
Since God created the Canaanites just as much as He created Israel, their ultimate fate is up to Him.
Let’s get this straight right here and right now.
Right here in Deuteronomy, we’re are talking about a divine fiat straight from the Creator of the Universe to have entire nations wiped out so that God can hand over the Land of Canaan to His Chosen People.
Got it?
And for those who still harbor the totally false idea that the Old Testament God is different from the New Testament God, I want you to chew on this thought.
Your so-called “God of the NT” is going to continue this Holy War on all of those who are not His elect (meaning not a part of Israel) on such a tremendous scale you can’t even begin to imagine how devastating it’s gonna be.
Of course, I’m referring to the Battle of Armageddon…
…and it is going to be the bloodiest war ever fought in the history of mankind.
Hundreds of millions of people are going to be killed with absolutely no mercy and no apology from the Lord our God.
And here’s another news flash for you.
Do you know who is going to be leading this mother of wars to end all wars that will cause the death of countless millions?
His Name is Yeshua.
That’s right, I’m talking about the Messiah, the one who is portrayed in most churches as a meek and mild person who kissed babies and would never even hurt a fly.
What’s going to occur during Armageddon is going to make what went on in Canaan three thousand years ago seem like a trip to Disney Land.
