“And these words,
which I am commanding you today,
shall be on your heart.“
-Deuteronomy 6:6
Alright, today we’re going to blow into smithereens the common Christian teaching that the Torah being written on the hearts of believers was only a New Testament manifestation.
Notice Deuteronomy 6:6 where it clearly says “…these words which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart“.
What?!?!
Aren’t we supposed to abandon the Torah because it was just a mechanical legal code written on cold hard stone tablets that was an ineffective method to “work” our way into heaven?
Under the NT Covenant, aren’t we supposed to replace the Torah that was written on stone with the new rules and commands from Yeshua and “by grace through faith” enter into salvation?
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!
Isn’t it absolutely just mind-blowing what we discover when we actually read the Bible for ourselves instead of just accepting the doctrinal nonsense we’re force-fed from the pulpit.
Just like with so many other expressions in the Bible, we have to recognize what “shall be on your hearts” really means in modern English.
It means the commands of the Torah are to be constantly upheld in our minds.
They are to be meditated on, contemplated and mulled over and most importantly…ACTED ON!!!
Do you want a good definition or explanation of what it means to write the law on your hearts?
Well, go no further than the first Psalm.
“How blessed are those
who reject the advice of the wicked,
don’t stand on the way of sinners
or sit where scoffers sit!
Their delight
is in Adonai’s Torah;
on his Torah they meditate
day and night.”
-Psalms 1:1-2
To mediate on God’s Torah day and night.
Yes!!!
I don’t think I’ve ever heard a better explanation of what it means to write the law on our hearts than this.
What God is saying here is that His Laws through much study and absorption are to become a part of our very being and fiber.
They are to be different than the civil laws that govern our respective nations.
Manmade laws that nations make change, new laws are added and some laws are dropped altogether.
For instance, the US Constitution has already undergone ten amendments.
And for the most part, when it comes to legal matters in our daily lives, we outsource them and hire lawyers to solve our legal problems.
Not so with the Torah.
We are to be so diligent in studying God’s Word that it becomes an inseparable part of our very being and existence.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“All Scripture is God-breathed
and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting and training
in righteousness…”
-2 Timothy 3:16
And I remind you that when 2 Timothy 3:16 was penned, there was no such thing as a New Testament in existence.
This verse is ONLY referring to the OT Scriptures.
