Today we begin Deuteronomy Chapter 34.

“And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the Lord shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea, And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar.”-Deuteronomy 34:1-3
Alrighty folks!
Final stretch!
We’ve now finally reached the very last chapter of the Five Books of Moses!
For those of you who have been with me from the very beginning, I offer a hearty congratulations to you.
Without a doubt, the Biblical foundation you now possess very likely surpasses that of over 99% of gentle pastors, preachers and Bible teachers pretty much anywhere in the world (that just might be an understatement).
That’s almost a guarantee.
So without any further ado, let’s jump right into it.
The day has come for Grandfather Moses to face that sad and fateful day that will visit all of us unless God willing the Messiah returns before our time.
However, before Moses passes away, the Lord has one last blessing in store for him.
Although, Moses won’t be allowed to enter the Promised Land, God is going to let him see it.
We’re told that Moses ascended Mount Nebo to die.
Verse 1 points out that Mount Nebo was located “to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho”.
To make this super easy to understand, let’s use the Jordan River as our reference point.
Mount Nebo was located on the eastern side of the Jordan River and Jericho was located on Western side of the Jordan River.
Oh and incidentally, did you know that Jericho is considered by secular archeologists (secular, NOT religious) to be THE oldest city in the world?
I wonder if the Guinness Book of World Records lists this as so?
Some might argue that Damascus in Syria is the oldest city in the world and maybe that’s true.
I don’t really have a dog in this fight and just thought that tidbit interesting.
Onward.
From the vantage point of Mount Nebo, God allowed Moses to have a supernatural panoramic view of the whole Promised Land his children would inherit.
Based on the order of the tribes ‘ territories listed, Moses swept his eyes from the northernmost part of the Holy Land back towards the west, and finally to the south (Moses turned his head all the way to the right and then slowed turned it towards the left).
Then the Lord tells Moses…
“This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.”
This is a verse every human being in the world (especially the Palestinians) should engrave into the deepest recesses of their craniums.
The Promised Land for the children of Israel and their descendants forever is ONLY the land of Canaan.
There ain’t no alternative place that Hashem has prepared for Israel and there never will be.
And there never will be an alternative group of people who will have the right to occupy this land.
There ain’t no option A or B homies.
Got it?
One of the grand historical comedies that has taken place over the past 100 years has been the serious attempts by leaders of different countries and other powerful people in the world to somehow and in some way establish a “new” Jewish homeland in Europe or Africa.
Obviously such efforts are a form of compromise because they want to avoid the political friction they’re afraid will ensue if they stake their claim on the land that God originally promised Abraham and his descendants.
Well, my response is…
…Are you frickin’ kidding me?!
Fortunately, all of these attempts have failed and the Jewish people thanks to Hashem controlling things in the heavens have indeed returned to their ancient homeland.
But having said that, I’ll tell you this.
Many of the world leaders when they voted at the United Nations about 70 years ago to allow the children of Israel to return to Canaan have afterwards publicly come forward and said they openly regret what they have done.
And now they want to reverse the reality they helped bring about through their votes.
Understand when I accuse world leaders, as much as it pains me to say this I’m talking about my home country (the United States) as well.
The Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations during their time of power have shown zero interest in honoring the Holy Land as Scripture says it should be honored: that it is a holy place that has been set aside for only the Jewish people.
Fortunately, President Trump is a breath of fresh air and made a great step in the right direction by establishing the US Embassy in Jerusalem.
So let’s get this straight.
It doesn’t matter how many American presidents bow their heads in prayer and call on the name of the Jewish Messiah in public.
Nor does all of their flowery and ear-tickling rhetoric mean one darn thing if they continue to define Israel’s right to exist on their own terms instead of God’s terms.
Those world leaders, American or otherwise, who are pushing for a Palestinian State in the Promised Land…
…or who say that Muslims should have a right to keep their shrine on the Temple Mount…
…are at odds with the Creator of the Universe.
History has shown us that empires and whole nations have literally risen and fallen because they ignored God’s will as plainly revealed in His Word on this point.
