“Moshe came and proclaimed all the words of this song in the hearing of the people and of Hoshea the son of Nun.When he had finished speaking all these words to all Israel, he said to them, “Take to heart all the words of my testimony against you today, so that you can use them in charging your children to be careful to obey all the words of this Torah. For this is not a trivial matter for you; on the contrary, it is your life! Through it you will live long in the land you are crossing the Yarden to possess.“-Deuteronomy 32:44
From verse 44 we are presented with a subscript to the Song of Moses.
This was actually a custom during the Biblical era.
Whenever a ruler made an official announcement, first it was recorded in writing and then another record would be created as confirmation that what had been pronounced had actually been carried out.
We’re also told Joshua appeared together with Moses to read aloud all the DABAR or words they had received from Hashem.
In this context “all these words” refers only to the Book of Deuteronomy.
Moses makes it clear to the people that “all the words of this Torah” are to be taken very, very seriously.
They are NOT a trivial thing.
In fact, the children of Israel’s very survival as a nation is directly linked to whether they obey the words of the Torah or not.
This is a major takeaway for us modern day believers who make up “spiritual Israel” in these latter days.
We should understand that these DABAR (these words) are referring to the commandments.
And when I say commandments, I mean just that.
They ain’t options.
“I’ll obey them when I’m in a good mood” or “I’ll obey them when when I feel particularly pious” ain’t gonna cut it homies.
Read carefully the words written from verse 44.
We’re told to trust Hashem and that His commands are life itself.
I know you’ve probably got a ton of self-help books and subliminal success recordings on your bookshelf or stored in your computer that you go to for solace when you go into a panic about how you’re life is going…
…but understand at the end of the day you don’t need any of that.
I remind you that life and blessing are what results when you obey the Law.
And death and curses are unfortunately what results when you disobey the Law.
This is a concept that the uncircumcised gentile church has trivialized for literally centuries now.
In fact I would say this trivialization has even peaked in these last days we’re living in now.
Things in the church have gotten so ridiculously bad its reached the point where obeying God’s laws is considered to be a bad thing!
I am NOT kidding.
They even have official terms for it.
They call it either “legalism” or “judaizing”.
Well, I have an official term for their position towards the Holy Law of Hashem.
I call it retard-ism.
The gentile church has fallen sooooo in love with their own doctrines and ideals they have literally created an anti-Torah religion based on their own subjective preferences and individuality.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry…
…probably a combination of both.
Again, what makes all of this grand comedy is they really believe with all of their hearts that to obey Hashem’s written commands is to be “in opposition to Christ” as these uncircumcised believers call it.
Can you believe this crap?!
Heck man, I need a stronger expletive to express my real feelings on the matter.
You had best believe Yeshua used MUCH STRONGER WORDS IN HIS DAY that had the whole of population of Jerusalem covering up their ears and cringing in shock.
Alrighty, enough of this rant.
Let’s close with the takeaway for today.
Hear the words of Hashem through His chosen mediator Moses.
The Lord says that His Torah (meaning His instructions) is LIFE ITSELF.
It is the very stuff we need to sustain both our spirit and body (remember they’re interconnected).
And make no bones about it, when I say Torah I am referring to the commands with a 36p font size capital “C”.
For those who have decided to dedicated themselves to the Jewish Messiah (some to the point where they actually worship the messiah as literally Elohim itself), I urge you to heed this warning (and I’m also talking to myself here).
Remember Yeshua was the most Torah-observant Jew who walked the face of the planet.
CHOOSE LIFE!
CHOOSE TO BE OBEDIENT TO HASHEM!
In fact, in the next couple of verses, we’re about to find out that even the 2nd greatest mediator between man and God that ever lived is also about to be held to this warning.
See you all next time.
Shalom!
CONNECTING THESE TEACHINGS TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“Do we, then,
nullify the law by this faith?
Not at all!
Rather, we uphold the law.”
-Romans 3:31
Yeshua answered,
“It is written:
‘Man shall not live on bread alone,
but on every word that
comes from the mouth of God.‘”
-Matthew 4:4
“This calls for patient endurance
on the part of the people of God
who keep his commands and
remain faithful to Yeshua.”
-Revelations 14:12
“Don’t think that I have come to
abolish the Torah or the Prophets.
I have come not to abolish but to complete.
Yes indeed!
I tell you that until heaven and earth pass away,
not so much as a yud or a stroke
will pass from the Torah
— not until everything that
must happen has happened.
So whoever disobeys the least of
these commands and teaches others
to do so will be called the least
in the Kingdom of Heaven.
But whoever obeys them and
so teaches will be called great in
the Kingdom of Heaven.”
-Matthew 5:17-19
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord!’
will enter the Kingdom of Heaven,
only those who do what
my Father in heaven wants.
On that Day, many will say to me,
‘Lord, Lord!
Didn’t we prophesy in your name?
Didn’t we expel demons in your name?
Didn’t we perform many miracles in your name?’
Then I will tell them to their faces,
‘I never knew you!
Get away from me,
you workers of lawlessness!”
-Matthew 7:21-23
