Throughout the narrative of Deuteronomy 29 (actually throughout the whole Book of Deuteronomy), the Lord makes it crystal clear to His people that ONLY Canaan was the land He promised to Israel.
This land wasn’t some random territory the Israelites just happened to chance upon during their wanderings.
The land of Canaan has always been the Promised Land and was in no way left up to chance, serendipity, or the ever-changing tide of human politics and history.
One may wonder, why does the Promised Land have to be this particular spot?
That’s a good question and you know what?
Much of the world today is asking this same question.
The Muslims are adamant that the land where the Jewish state currently sits belongs to them and they’re willing to do anything including sending female and child suicide bombers into Israel to make that point clear.
So why not just move the Israelis to some other piece of real estate on the planet that won’t cause so much intense political friction?
Well, I’ve got some news for you.
About a century ago, that very thing came within a holy hair’s breadth from actually occuring!
Here’s what happened.
Around 100 years ago, the father of Zionism, Theodore Hertzl began approaching various governments around the globe in an attempt to acquire a suitable area that could be made into the Jewish homeland.
For obvious reasons he wanted Palestine but the Arabs were like HELL NO!
Finally, because of all the pushback from the Muslims, the British offered Hertzl one of their colonial holdings.
This territory is today known as the country of Uganda.
Here’s the thing.
Serious debates about whether to accept the British offer or not were held at the World Zionist Congress and although the majority of votes ended up rejecting Uganda as the new Jewish homeland, it was a VERY CLOSE VOTE!
Yet, even if the World Zionist Congress had voted to accept Uganda, it would have gone against everything promised by the Biblical Prophets.
Because Scripture makes it clear when Israel returns from their exile, they will go back to the land of Canaan.
This is something the secular governments of the world don’t understand and a lesson they may have to learn the hard way.
The land of Canaan is very special to the Lord for His own good reasons.
That piece of property in the Middle East is a divinely ordained place.
It’s not just any land that is suitable to house the children of Israel.
It is ONLY the land of Canaan.
God made this clear to the 2nd Exodus Generation here in Deuteronomy.
He made it clear via divine providence about 100 years ago in the late 1800’s.
And He’s making it clear today.
The only problem is the world doesn’t have the eyes to see and the ears to hear.
But they will…eventually.
That’s a guarantee you can bet your very soul on.
I’m done.
