We’ve been discussing the topic of whether or not one can lose one’s salvation due to disobedience or rebellion against the Almighty.
The conclusion we reached is that per the pattern established in Torah, the answer is an unequivocal yes, one can indeed have their redemption completely reversed through disobedience against the Almighty.
Today I want to expound a bit on two key New Testament verses that speak to this topic.
The first one is Galatians 5:4.
“You who are trying to be declared righteous by God through legalism have severed yourselves from the Messiah! You have fallen away from God’s grace!”
So what is this verse talking about?
Well, Paul was addressing those who mistakenly thought that Torah Obedience PLUS trusting Messiah equalled salvation.
Obviously, you should know by now that we’re talking apples and oranges here.
Torah obedience and faith in Messiah are two different things, yet they go hand-in-hand.
Think about it, the Messiah was one of the most Torah observant men on the planet and he promoted Torah observance.
“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”-Matthew 5:17-20
In fact, according to Scripture, a Messiah who teaches against the Law has to be discounted as a false Messiah.
So don’t think your faith in Messiah is a replacement for obedience to God’s commands.
Quite the opposite actually.
It is your faith in Messiah that should lead to obedience to God’s commands.
Onward.
The next verse I want to take a look at is Revelations 2:4.
“But I have this against you: you have lost the love you had at first. Therefore, remember where you were before you fell, turn from this sin, and do what you used to do before. Otherwise, I will come to you and remove your menorah from its place– if you don’t turn from your sin!“
So what does it mean to have one’s MENORAH removed from them?
Well, what is a MENORAH?
A MENORAH is a lamp stand.
And what’s the purpose of a lamp stand?
It’s to give off light, right?
However, we’re talking about God’s light (OWR in Hebrew).
So these verses are talking about having our enlightenment or the very life of God removed from us.
However, don’t misunderstand what I’m saying here.
This will occur because of your choice…based on a decision you made.
There is no man, angel or some spiritual entity that can forcefully take your enlightenment away from you against your will.
People lose their enlightenment because they turned back to sin and let their love and passion for HASHEM grow cold.
