We’re in the midst of discussing the rules and regulations governing the poor-tithe.
Again, this was a tithe set aside by the common Israelite to help out the poor, needy and foreigners so they wouldn’t perish in the land.
Today I’d like to share a curious fact of history concerning this tithe that is a perfect example of how we human beings out of our selfish tendencies just love to find loopholes to get out of fully obeying those commands of God we find particularly inconvenient or annoying.
Here’s what happened concerning this command.
Over time the Israelites eventually grew sick of obeying HASHEM in their financial matters so they modified to their favor the God-ordained instructions governing tithing and first fruits.
I ain’t even kidding man.
The Temple did not like the major loss of income that occurred due to this tithe every 3rd year AND…
…they disliked even more the idea of not possessing direct control over how the money was doled out to the poor.
So what did they do.
Here’s what happened.
About one century before the birth of Yeshua, the High Priest at the time whose name was John Hyrcannus officially declared that the poor-tithe be done away with.
I ain’t even kidding.
And here’s another kicker.
This High Priest named John Hyrcannus was illegitimate…
…meaning he did not come from the line of Aaron.
He was installed by the Hasmon family whose actions were probably driven by the mad lust for power (what other reason is there?).
So right from the get-go, the whole situation was a big chaotic mess of gargantuan proportions.
Now here’s where it gets even worse.
The modern church directly adopted this illegitimate practice instituted by an illegitimate high priest and now all of the largest Christian denominations demand that all of their members’ tithes and offerings be given directly to the church’s leadership who will then decide how it will be given.
This reminds me of a time when I was attending an idolatrous “Jesus-is-God-believing-Messianic-Congregation“.
I was tithing to this congregation regularly and faithfully (about $300 bucks a month at the time) when all of a sudden the leader made an announcement during the fellowship meal.
The announcement was a call for more money (quite a bit more money) so that the congregation leader could rent a new mansion the leaders of the congregation would live in that would also double as a place of worship.
The leader even went so far as to say if God asks you to max out your credit card to donate to such a purpose you should do it.
I was like…what the heck!!!
So what’s the takeaway here?
The takeaway is that the modern church’s system of tithing is based on a dictate that goes against the Torah instituted by an illegitimate high priest!!!
See what happens when you go off the track and disobey God’s Word?
Total disaster results.
What a joke!!!
