“When he has come to occupy the throne of his kingdom, he is to write a copy of this Torah for himself in a scroll, from the one the priest and Levites use. It is to remain with him, and he is to read in it every day, as long as he lives; so that he will learn to fear Adonai his God and keep all the words of this Torah and these laws and obey them; so that he will not think he is better than his kinsmen; and so that he will not turn aside either to the right or to the left from the mitzvah. In this way he will prolong his own reign and that of his children in Israel.”-Deuteronomy 17:18-20
I don’t know about you but I happen to think that the closing verses of Deuteronomy Chapter 17 are some of the most inspiring verses in all of Scripture.
It brings a lump to my throat and so strongly reinforces what I’ve been trying to promote via this blog from the very beginning…
…that God’s Torah is active, alive and well…
…and relevant for our day and age.
This is the REAL Word of God.
Whenever the New Testament writers uses words or phrases like “Scripture”, “the Word of God” or “it is written”, remember they were ONLY referring to those books which the gentiles call the “Old” Testament (what I think should be called the ONLY Testament).
The truth is there is no other Word of God.
You read that right.
There is no other God-breathed but the TANACH (Hebrew for the “Old” Testament).
As great an oral commentary as the New Testament is I think it’s a HUGE MISTAKE OF GARGANTUAN PROPORTIONS to put it on the same level as Scripture.
It may be God-inspired but it’s NOT God-breathed like the Christians make it out to be and I think if you really knew how the New Testament was put together and how over history some books were taken out and then thrown back in over and over again, you’d agree with me.
In fact, it would be downright retarded to put the NT on the same level as the OT for the following reasons.
-The foundation of the New Testament is the “Old” Testament. In other words, the Tanach came first!
-A full 50% of the content of the NT literally comes directly from the OT (that’s NOT an exaggeration).
-The NT authors assume its readers are already well-versed in Torah. In other words, you can’t even understand the NT minus understanding the OT from a proper Hebrew perspective. It’s not a stand-alone book. Yet, the Torah can completely stand on its on. Everything else is commentary.
Therefore, in Israel, once a new king assumes his throne, he is to borrow the original Torah scrolls from the priests of Israel and then copy them out word-for-word.
The king is NOT to have a scribe do the work of copying out the Torah scroll for him.
No matter how busy he may be, the King is to carve out whatever time is needed so that he can sit down and one letter at a time write out the whole Torah scroll.
When he is finished, he is to keep it close by his side and it will be the very book by which he will not only govern his life but how he will govern all the members of the houses of Israel.
Right here and right now, we have just been given one of the greatest success secrets in the world whether you want to reprogram your mind for Godly fulfillment, succeed in your school work, or program your mind to achieve whatever goal your heart desires.
For example, if you want to achieve a certain goal by a certain deadline (having a set timeline is key!)
What you should do is write out your goal EVERY MORNING AND NIGHT until the words seep into your subconscious where positive seeds will be planted.
Once these planted seeds start growing, they will literally force a change in your behavior to act in accordance with the goals you have set.
I remember hearing somewhere that the very act of fully writing something out involves so many more muscles, motor skills, and brain neural impulses compared to when you are just typing something out on a computer.
Something mysterious happens that enables you to remember better and contemplate deeper when you sit down and by hand fully write something out.
It just works and the Lord who created us knows it.
That’s why God ordered the King of Israel to employ his muscle memory to drink in the wisdom of the Torah and never forget the Lord’s commands by which he was to rule his kingdom.
