Recall the rhetorical but powerful question Moses asked the people as he stood on a hilltop in Moab.
“And, now, O Israel, what does YHWH your God demand of you?”
And what was Moses’ answer to that great question?
His answer was those who have been saved should revere the Lord, walk in His ways, love Him, serve Him, and keep His commands.
Again, remember these five key verbs: REVERE, WALK, LOVE, SERVE, AND OBEY!
For those of you who grew up in the church, isn’t it now plain as day just how false Christianity is when held up in light of God’s Torah?
What does Christianity teach?
Basically, they teach that once you’ve been granted your salvation, then you can pretty much just float through the rest of your life, carefree and not give two hoots about the things of God.
Why?
Because your sins are covered, so why even worry about it?
Once you’ve accepted “Jesus” as your Lord and Savior, not only are there any further obligations to God…
…but there will also be zero consequences for your actions or inactions no matter how evil they may have been.
In the gentile church, the knowledge of what God has done for us and how we worship Him and live our lives has been completely separated.
If you think I’m joking, think again.
This is the exact doctrine that the modern church (especially the evangelicals) teaches, promotes and preaches.
In fact, any attempt to obey God’s commands is met with scorn and the person in question is accused of legalism.
This “Law Has Been Done Away With” doctrine is anti-Semitic and straight from the pit of hell.
In their wanting to distance themselves from the Jewish Scriptures, the church teaches that at the moment of salvation, all a Christian has to do is kick back while he waits for heaven.
Can you see just how diametrically opposed Torah and Christianity are towards each other?
Moses tells us…”You saved of Israel, God has plans for you and you have things to do!“
Yet Christianity says…”If you’ve been saved, you have no more further obligations“.
Let me make it clear, if you are one of God’s, you do have obligations toward Him that far exceed just feeling warm fuzzies towards Him.
It’s amazing how so many churchgoers really believe that all God seeks from us is just a feeling of love in our hearts towards Him…
…and that possibly the only obligation we might have towards God is to every once in a while just attend a worship service.
Before closing, again I remind you that all of these instruction here in Deuteronomy and the rest of the Torah for that matter are directed to a people that has ALREADY BEEN SAVED!
Got it?!
This is another one of those non-negotiable patterns established in Torah.
FIRST, we are saved.
And the AFTERWARDS, we are given the Lord’s instructions (what the church in a derisive manner calls “The Law”).
God’s commands and instructions are NOT for those who haven’t already been saved.
Remember, God’s salvation is a free gift.
It’s a free gift now and was a free gift in the time of Moses as well.
The Torah has always been for the purpose of providing guidelines for those who have already been saved.
