So a new reality has dawned on both the lives of Tziva and Mephibosheth.
In a nutshell, their roles have been reversed.
Mephibosheth, the crippled loser who everyone viewed as useless, is now Tziva’s master!
And Saul’s estate that Tziva had controlled as his own for years?
Well, that also has been turned over to Mephibosheth.
David is reversing the old order and making things right.
In Hebrew, this is known as MISHPAT TZEDEK (true and fair justice).
So why does David have the right to do such things?
Because he’s the king, homies!
Since no one legally owned Saul’s estate anymore, it belonged to the monarchy.
David could’ve kept it for himself, but he didn’t.
Tziva had been running the place and enjoying his luxurious lifestyle…
And now he’d still do fine…
But he would now be under Mephibosheth’s authority.
I bet Tziva wasn’t too happy about that.
He was probably hoping for a much better deal!
So what’s the big takeaway here?
Simple.
The first will be last, and the last will be first.
God’s justice works contrary to man’s way of thinking.
Consider Mephibosheth.
He wasn’t just last.
He was dead last.
But now?
He’s standing before the King…
Or the “Son of God” to use Scriptural terminology.
That’s right homies.
All Kings of Israel were called “Sons of God.”
It was a common messianic term.
The lesson for us is Mephibosheth was standing before the Son of God…
Not as a nobody…
But as his friend!
On top of that, the estate is all Mephibosheth’s!
Tziva is still gonna run things…
But moving forward it would be to take care of Mephibosheth’s family and anyone left in Saul’s house.
The same goes for us when we are born again and grafted into the commonwealth of Israel.
We become close and intimate friends with the Son of God…
We gain direct access to the Father via the Holy Spirit…
And can enter into his unlimited abundance, wealth, and glory!
Can I get an amen in the house?
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“These latecomers have worked only one hour,
while we have borne the brunt
of the day’s work in the hot sun,
yet you have put them on an equal footing with us!’
But he answered one of them,
‘Look, friend, I’m not being unfair with you.
Didn’t you agree to work today for a denarius?
Now take your pay and go!
I choose to give the last worker as much as I’m giving you.
Haven’t I the right to do what I want with what belongs to me?
Or do you begrudge my generosity?’
Thus the last ones will be first and the first last.”
