“But that same night the word of Adonai came to Natan: ‘Go and tell my servant David that this is what Adonai says: ‘You are going to build me a house to live in?'”-2 Samuel 7:4
Let’s talk a little about the prophet Natan.
He seems to appear out of nowhere.
All we know is that Nathan was a prophet and advisor to King David known for delivering God’s messages to him.
He played an important role in key events such as telling David about God’s promise to establish his family line forever (the Davidic Covenant)…
And confronting him about his sin with Bathsheba.
Nathan was brave and faithful, even when delivering tough messages, and he helped ensure Solomon became king after David.
In fact, Jewish tradition holds that Nathan may have been a teacher or spiritual advisor to Solomon during his early years.
He may have also written some of the history of David’s reign.
The bottom line is that he is remembered as a wise and loyal servant of God.
So here’s your takeaway for today.
By delivering the Davidic Covenant, Natan not only confirmed God’s promise to David but also set the stage for the coming of Yeshua, the Messiah, who would be born from David’s lineage…
And not only that.
His guidance to both David and Solomon was key in shaping Israel’s future.
Through his actions, Nathan helped fulfill the ultimate prophecy that points to the hope of a Savior who would come to rule and save the entire world.
Despite being a seemingly insignificant character in the Scriptures…
Nathan’s story reminds us of the powerful ways God uses faithful individuals to carry out His greater plan.
This should give hope to us all.
It doesn’t matter who you are…
Or where you’re from…
If you are called to faith in the God of Israel…
You have a role to play in the Kingdom.
And no matter how small it may seem…
It is NOT insignificant.
Lemme close with this final point.
Have you heard of the tragedy that occurred with the Space Shuttle Columbia which exploded when it re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere?
All seven astronauts onboard were killed.
Wanna know the reason why?
A teeny tiny piece of foam insulation, about the size of a screw, broke off from the external fuel tank during launch.
This piece of foam hit the left wing of the shuttle at high speed and broke the heat-resistant tiles on the bottom.
These tiles were very important for protecting the shuttle from the intense heat when it re-entered the atmosphere.
At first, the damage didn’t seem like a big deal, but it weakened the shuttle.
When it re-entered, superhot gas got inside the wing, causing the shuttle to break apart.
The point I wanted to make is that even seemingly small and insignificant things can have HUGE consequences.
In God’s Kingdom, this is even more true.
