I’ve got one final point to make before I finish off 2nd Samuel Chapter 7.
I want you to get just how radical a notion it was for David and the ancient Israelites to be told that…
God didn’t need a house to live in…
And that He wasn’t restricted by geographical boundaries.
It went against everything folks in those days believed in terms of how the gods operated.
This also shows how much the Israelites were influenced by the world when it really should’ve been the other way around.
In the New Testament, believers with the Holy Spirit are called portable “temples” of the living God.
However, the use of the word “temple” is not quite accurate.
That’s just how people expressed themselves back then.
The truth?
If you wanna get really Biblical about it…
We’re actually NOT temples for the living God…
We’re “tabernacles!”
God chooses to travel with you…
Not stay stuck in one place.
And here’s the best part…
Because God lives inside of you…
You’re never apart from Him!
Think about it.
If God confined Himself to a temple building…
You would have to travel to be near Him.
But since through His Spirit…
He has chosen to live in you…
There’s no distance, no separation.
He’s with you wherever you go!
What could be more awesome than that?
Now, David didn’t fully grasp all of this.
He couldn’t quite understand how one of his descendants would rule over God’s people forever or AD’OLAM in Hebrew.
Because in some way, it means this ruler who would come from his line would NEVER die?!
So, here’s the point.
Although David didn’t fully comprehend what the Lord was communicating to Him…
He decided to trust Him anyway.
And that’s your awesome takeaway for today.
David didn’t understand God.
David sensed God’s promises were bigger than anything any person could ever dream up or make happen.
But he still believed.
And that, my friend, is all God asks of you…
To believe Him…
And trust Him…
Even when you can’t see how His promises will unfold…
Even when He doesn’t make sense…
Even when you’re struggling with health issues…
Even when you’re struggling with money issues…
Even when you’re life is in total chaos.
Can you trust Him?
That is the epitome of what it means to walk by faith, not by sight!
Ya feel me?
So this wraps up Chapter 7.
I hope you can see now why this chapter has been called a Torah within a Torah.
See ya all next time.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“What agreement can there be
between the temple of God and idols?
For we are the temple of the living God-
as God said, “I will house myself in them,…
and I will walk among you.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.”
