2 Samuel 7 sets the stage for future events.
What do I mean exactly?
Well, it makes perfect sense.
One of the big themes of this chapter was the Temple.
David wanted to build one to make sure God’s presence would always be with him.
Yet, the Lord had to correct David on this point.
He told David He didn’t need a fancy building.
He had always traveled with His people and never stayed in one spot.
Yet, David was still stuck on building a grand house made of stone and cedar.
God would eventually let one of David’s sons build the Temple…
But He made it clear He wouldn’t be confined to that physical structure like some bird in a cage or a genie in a bottle.
But He would place His name (reputation) there.
So again, looking back, we can see the stage was being set for key truths that would become clear in the future, long after David passed away.
What were some of those key truths?
For instance, God lives in Heaven, not in a man-made building.
He isn’t locked down to one place.
He travels with His people and stays with them.
And here’s what also was revolutionary.
In the future, God’s presence wouldn’t just be for priests and kings.
It would be for everyone who trusts in Him.
There would be no need to travel to some special spot to worship—
The Lord would be with you, wherever you go.
Let’s make that the takeaway for today because I think we all need to be reminded of this sometimes…
There is no place on earth (or in heaven) where God’s presence cannot be with us.
Nor are there any circumstances, whether health, finance-related, or anything from which the Lord cannot rescue us.
His power is that extensive, and His arm is that long.
Ya feel me?
Hope this inspired you a bit.
See ya all next time.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life,
neither angels nor demons,
neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
neither height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God
that is in Messiah Yeshua, our Lord.”
-Romans 8:38-39
