When it comes to kings and their dynasties…
There’s a point that just flies over our modern heads…
But would’ve been super clear to the ancient Israelites.
Here’s what I’m talking about.
When Saul rebelled, and the Lord removed His grace from him…
It wasn’t just Saul who was done for…
God rejected his entire family line forever and for all time.
There would be no second chances.
David knew this…
And the ancient Israelites knew this.
That’s why when God promised He would never remove His Grace from David’s family as He did to Saul’s, it was nothing short of revolutionary.
I’m not saying there were never any evil kings in David’s line.
There certainly were and they paid the price for their wickedness.
But unlike Saul’s family, David’s dynasty would NEVER lose God’s favor.
Ya feel me here?
The last king from David’s family was Zedekiah, who ruled from 596 to 586 B.C.
But here’s the twist—he wasn’t even chosen by his own people!
Babylon’s King Nebuchadnezzar put him in charge, and the people of Judah never really accepted him.
After he was gone, it looked like David’s dynasty was over for good.
Fast forward 600 years—and still no new king from David’s line had taken the throne.
The Jews in King Herod’s time were desperate for a miracle.
They believed that one day, a true king from David’s family would rise up, defeat the Romans, and bring in a golden age—the Kingdom of God.
As I’m sure you’re aware, they called this long-awaited king The Messiah.
But not everyone held onto their faith in God’s promises.
Most of the religious leaders had given up on a direct descendant of David.
They figured as long as their deliverer was Jewish—from David’s tribe of Judah—that would be good enough.
But here’s the thing—
God had NEVER forgotten His promise to David…
Even though 600 years had passed since Zedekiah (the last king from David’s line).
Finally, one fateful evening, a baby was born in Bethlehem.
His earthly parents were Yoseph and Miriam…
We know him today as Yeshua of Nazareth.
But He didn’t arrive the way anyone expected.
He wasn’t a mighty warrior-king.
At his first coming, he didn’t lead armies or crush enemies.
And because of that, most Jews—especially the religious leaders—rejected Him.
Let’s stop here for the takeaway.
Here’s what we gotta remember:
God NEVER forgets His promises.
Yeah, it might feel like forever.
It sure did for the Israelites.
Six hundred years passed with no king from David’s line.
Some gave up.
Others tried to force their own version of the promise.
But when God finally did fulfill it?
It looked NOTHING like what they expected.
That’s the thing…
God’s promises always come through…
But not always in the way we imagine.
If we get too stuck on how we think it should happen…
We might miss it completely—just like so many did with Yeshua.
So when you’re waiting on God?
Stay patient.
Stay open.
Stay hungry.
Because when His plan unfolds…
It’ll be better than anything you could’ve imagined.
Ya feel me?
See ya all next time.
