Can you relate to this?
You walk down the aisle to accept Yeshua as your Lord and Savior.
You’re excited about your decision and ready to leave your sinful past behind.
But as time goes by, challenges to your faith start popping up.
Maybe boredom sets in…
Maybe your atheist colleagues or classmates make fun of your decision and call you a moron…
Maybe you’re swayed by the sensual delights of the world…
Whatever it is, you veer off the path you so enthusiastically decided to walk down.
If this has happened to you, don’t be dismayed.
It happens to all of us.
It happened to me.
And it happened to Israel.
When they received God’s Law at Sinai…
As a nation, they wholeheartedly decided to obey God’s commands…
But then life kicked in.
From that point on, it was a roller coaster ride.
We read about battles…
Leaders who failed, and others who succeeded…
Territory won and lost…
And the priesthood slowly losing its strength.
Israel’s journey was like wandering through a dense, confusing forest.
There were so many twists, turns, and details that it’s hard to see the big picture.
However, we notice something exciting when we pause and look back at Israel’s path.
They had been on the right track all along!
There was still a long way to go, and it wouldn’t be easy.
But God was still guiding them.
Israel’s story may have started in Egypt.
But now here we are in Yerushalayim (Jerusalem)!
And isn’t this how our walk with God is?
It may be a roller coaster ride with lots of ups and downs…
But at the end of the day…
When we look back…
We’re amazed at how far we’ve come…
And realize God has been with us all along.
That’s why this chapter is a huge milestone.
David is finally king…
The Promised Land is united and at peace…
Yerushalayim is the capital of God’s kingdom on Earth…
And the Ark of the Covenant is back where it belongs, with God’s people!
The focus here was David’s dream to build a Temple for God…
But God rejected David’s request.
However, this chapter isn’t really about building the Temple.
The takeaway is that it’s about something way bigger.
It’s a turning point where God’s amazing plans become clearer and deeper than anything we’ve seen before.
That’s why this chapter has been called a canon within a canon…
Or a Torah within a Torah.
See ya all next time.
