“But that same night the word of Adonai came to Natan: ‘Go and tell my servant David that this is what Adonai says: ‘You are going to build me a house to live in? Since the day I brought the people of Isra’el out of Egypt until today, I never lived in a house; rather, I traveled in a tent and a tabernacle.'”-2 Samuel 7:4-6
The Lord wastes no time setting Natan straight after the prophet Willy-nilly tells David to build a Temple for the Lord if that’s what his heart desires.
Note that God spoke to Nathan when he was awake.
This was not some dream-time visitation.
God usually communicates His vision to prophets when they are awake and conscious.
God scolds Natan and tells him after He rescued His people from Egypt to this very day (about 500 years), He sojourned with his people in a “tent” and a “tabernacle.”
Did you catch that?
This is a verse a lot of folks just skip over.
So lemme repeat it.
We’re told the Lord traveled in BOTH a “tent” and a “tabernacle.”
Or an OHEL and a MISHKAN in Hebrew.
Recall yesterday’s discussion about how the Lord communed with Moses in a tent (Ohel) before the Tabernacle (Mishkan) was built.
That’s why the Lord spoke these particular words to Nathan.
Because David was currently using a tent as a place of meeting, just like Moses did!
The point being communicated was despite David’s assumption that the Lord needed some lavish fancy pants set-up…
The truth is God didn’t need anything else.
A good ‘ole humble tent would suffice!
That’s your takeaway for today.
We assume magnificent or special preparations are necessary when communicating with the Lord.
But that’s not true.
You can reach out to God right now no matter where you are.
Whether you’re in a college cafeteria…
Or you’re bedroom…
You don’t need to go to some special building to pray to God.
Your access to the Holy Spirit is INSTANT…
And stronger than any possible Wifi connection anywhere in the world.
Ya feel me?
You can reach out to Him right NOW!
See ya all next time.
