Mikhal clearly hated being part of a harem.
She was David’s first wife, given to him by King Saul.
But if you go back to when Mikhal was forced to return to David, there’s no sign she was happy about it.
Plus, here’s the kicker:
Many of the women she looked down on for seeing David dance (something she thought only she should see) were the mothers of his kids!
That’s right.
Mikhal didn’t want to accept her role as one wife among many.
She saw herself as special, above the others, and David’s public dancing only made her feel worse.
David didn’t take Mikhal’s outburst lying down.
He reminded Mikhal of her place.
He pointed out that her father, Saul, wasn’t just any king—he was rejected by God and stripped of his throne.
God chose David to be king, not Saul.
Here was the bottom line David was laying down:
“Mikhal, whatever royalty you think you have comes through me, the one God chose—not your disgraced father, who God abandoned.”
Ouch!
That must have hurt!
David’s response was for sure a serious punch in the gut to Mikhal.
So here’s the takeaway for today.
Mikhal’s problem was she wanted to stand apart from the rest.
She arrogantly placed herself above others and thought she was special in an unhealthy manner.
Remember, as believers, we’re called to be part of the body…
We are to work together in unity, not seeking to be lone wolves or setting ourselves above others.
We should rejoice in being part of something bigger than ourselves.
And you know what?
Here’s an honest confession.
This has been and is one of my biggest problems.
I need to remember, that it ain’t about standing out…
It’s about standing together as one body in God’s family.
Ya feel me?
See ya all next time.
