Let’s pause to get our bearings on where we’re at in our study of 2nd Samuel.
We’ve been dealing with the story of the transfer of the Ark of the Covenant to the City of David from Kiryat Ye’arim.
This city also known as Baalah or Ba’al Judah was about a day’s journey northwest from Jerusalem.
For about 70 years, the Ark was kept in the home of Avinadav.
He was a Levite and could’ve been a priest.
Now that David had finally captured Jerusalem and made it his capital, he wanted to bring back proper worship to the God of Israel.
Ever since Eli (Samuel’s mentor) had passed away, proper worship had completely fallen to pieces.
To be blunt, the idea of Torah obedience wasn’t even a priority anymore.
We shouldn’t overlook the fact that as we move through 2nd Samuel, mentions of the words “Torah,” “Law,” and “Moses,” become fewer and fewer.
Why?
Because Israel had drifted far from the true worship God commanded.
Instead, they mixed in local customs, pagan rituals, and new Hebrew traditions, all claiming it in the name of the Lord.
That’s right.
I’m talking about the Levites and the Priests AND David and his court.
This meant that both the religious and civil leadership of Israel were tragically ignorant of Scripture.
However, if we were to travel back in time and call them on the rug for their Scriptural ignorance, they’d probably deny it and insist their behavior was aligned with God’s Word.
And you know what, that’s EXACTLY how the gentile church reacts today when called on the carpet for their lawlessness!
I’ve heard pretty much every ridiculous excuse in the book.
“The New Testament did away with the ‘Old’ Testament Law.”
“The Law was only for Israel.”
“The Law was nailed to the cross.”
“The Law of love is above all of God’s other commandments.”
I’ve never really understood the logic behind that last one about the Law of love.
And so on.
Anyway, the point is this shows just how quickly people can stray from God’s truth…
And then give every manner of excuse to justify their behavior.
Ya feel me?
Over and out.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“Not everyone who says to me,
‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but the one who does the will of my
Father who is in heaven.
On that day many will say to me,
‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name,
and cast out demons in your name,
and do many mighty works in your name?’
And then will I declare to them,
‘I never knew you; depart from me,
you workers of lawlessness.’”
– Matthew 7:21-23

Amen.
MattithYAH (Mathew)>
“7:21 Not everyone who says to Me: Adon, Adon, will enter into the Kingdom of Shamayim; but he who does the will of My ABBA WHO is in the shamayim.
7:22 Many will tell Me in that Day: Adon, Adon, did not we prophesy in Your name, in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name do many mighty works?
7:23 Then I will tell them: I never knew you. Depart from Me, you who work Torah-lessness.”
